Going to get laid off

I just was laid off and am your age without kids. My plan is to brush up on my skills set in the field I already know about so when I look for a new job in my field I will have the same knowledge in the new areas that recent grads might have. The past ten years of being employed in the same niche sort of had it's good and bad aspects.

Going back to school in whichever way you can, be it at a Uni or on your own terms is a great idea. I wish you luck. Carry on!

Consider starting a business that bids on Air Force contracts. You are eminently qualified to work for them in a position from which you cannot be fired, as you are the boss. You can undercut the big companies in price and hire whoever you need for your company.

You never said what you are currently doing.

We don't know what career you're changing from.

If you can become an actuary without much additional schooling, that would be the route to take I would think. It is not easy to get into school to be a CRNA. The money is good in all three but you are looking likely at 3 years. I think you need some nursing experience after you get your degree to be accepted into a CRNA program. Pharmacists make good money but they get bogged down in a lot of paperwork now days.

I have two cousins who are pharmacists. One works retail. The other works for a hospital and now works at home managing the IT side of the pharmacy. That seems really nice. They worked hard and made sacrifices with their time though. Do you think that you can be in charge of peoples'health? It seems like that would be stressful.

Seriously, those are very different kinds of jobs that take different kinds of temperaments, tolerance for stress, etc. Make sure you go into the field that you are best suited for and will be happiest doing, not just the one that might ultimately pay the most.

CRNAs are among the worst kind of people. They want the money and prestige of being a physician, while making 1/100th of the sacrifice. At best, this is disingenuous and at worst, it causes people to die. Is that who you are?

I know 3 CRNA's and I don't find this to be true.

You have to have a nursing degree and be an RN before applying for a CRNA program.

My advice to college students is to never get a math and/or economics degree. Get a biochemistry or engineering degree with a minor in the field of your choice.

I vote actuary. You've already passed on exam. Workers are in demand, and the salaries are good.
