Um...why isn't Cain doing the 800m?

This is about making the US team, not about how she'll do at worlds.

You're speaking as if it's a given she'll make it to Moscow in either event. Not even close, she'll be lucky to make it in one.

Salazar determined, probably correctly, that her best shot is in the 1500. A slow sit-and-kick race would be perfect, and with Brenda Martinez in the 800 and Jenny Simpson getting a bye there are spots to be had.

Don't even mention "Cain win the 1500m/5000m double in Moscow".... don't even bring that up right now. She is not going to win anything, this is all about trying to make a US team and get some experience.

The "1500m/5000m double" comment was sarcastic. My whole point is that I thought her best chance for both the trials and worlds was the 800m. I think she has a better chance to both make the US team in the 800m AND do well at worlds in the 800m than the other events. I only made that comment to show that I'm not wishing that Cain does poorly in the other events, but rather I think it is what will happen.

Toss up, IMO. Can't fault the decision... agree the 5k is a joke unless Salazar knows something the rest of us don't.

Why is everyone having so much trouble comprehending this 5000 decision? No one, not even Salazar or Cain, believes she has a legitimate shot at making the 5000 team. It's all about a backup plan so that she can get some experience racing in a final at USAs (and maybe go after the USJR) if something unfortunate were to happen in the 1500 semis and she didn't make it there. Clearly her 2nd choice would be the 800, but the schedule doesn't allow that.

My guess is she probably won't run the 5000m.

Like reer says it's totally after the other event so it's probably a backup in case something goes wrong.

Personally I think she should run the 800 not 1500 but there you go.

Backup plan? You act as if the season is over if she doesn't make the team. There are a lot of other races to be run you know. At her preferred distance.

Makes no more sense than saying "On, we missed in the 1500, let's go toss the hammer around"

Is it possible she gets some expense $ if she makes the team? I heard Salazar wants to send her to Europe after the trials. Maybe that is it?
