Jumbo Elliott was famous for saying "make one move and one move only" and it certainly applied to the 1500m/mile as well as the 800m. Excellent advise for the 5000m as well.
Here's a reference in a Villanova blog review of Eamonn Coghlan's autobiography. It's such a cliche that they don't even bother attributing it to Jumbo.

A "move" is not always a kick on the last lap. In the '71 Dream Mile against Ryun, Liquori's winning move lasted almost two full laps, but it was still one move. Jumbo called it the greatest sustained kick of all time.
