Anyone know the major differences between the two. I plan to use them for summer tempos and longer intervals on the track... Is it worth waiting till July 11 for the LT IIs, and paying a little bit more.

I've used that shoe for the past several cycles going back to when it was white with a black swoosh. I'll race in a fresh pair, rotate it to track work and then on to trail running. Except for the solid green of 2011 I've always been 6 months behind on the colorway. The upper on the new version does not appear the old mesh but more like the flyknit stuff.
I've ran in them for the last 3 years. I think the only thing that might be worth waiting for the new ones for is if they fixed the tongue seem above your toes. The last two models are really stiff there until the shoe get broken in and at least for me cause blistering. The XC 2's didn't have this issue. Hoping the LT 2 eliminates it.
personally i prefer the upper on the LTII, but if you don't mind wearing socks go for the LTI. everything else is essentially the same.
Totally with you on this. The tongue/upper joint is horrible on the newer versions. Hope they fix that. Best all-around shoe.
