i may have a skewed perception of university of oregon's historical success (so correct me if i am wrong) but it seems to me that their teams of recent have fallen drastically behind their image. oregon seemingly every year receives a ludicrous recruitment class and has yet to produce tremendous success (ie lack of dominance in ncaas; only two ncaa titles in the last 35 years, both of which could seemingly be attributed to the pure talent of the team; etc.). They certainly have had some remarkable results, for example in fleet, hasay and greer this year and centrowitz a few years ago, but both were already very talented in high school (keeping in mind that greer's sb is only about a second and a half ahead of where he was as a junior in high school).
i don't mean to offend any oregon fans or alumni (rather i think that at this level, any team capable of vying for spots at the ncaa is exceptional), but i can't help but feel that the coaches at schools such as wisconsin, colorado and oklahoma have produced far better results given their recruitment classes. those two schools seem to have had very good recruitment classes, and have done amazing things with them, while oregon has yet to establish itself in that class despite recruits such as rupp, gedyon, puskedra (and certainly more depth than possibly any other school).
i know several great athletes who are set on attending oregon for its program. however, considering the academic merit of attending other schools with almost comparable ability to foster talent (ie stanford, ucla, princeton or even wisconsin!), i cannot see the allure of oregon. i believe that almost any university can be a great opportunity, but why pass up the a degree from a Shanghai ranked top 25 school?
while i am aware that every athlete has their own opinions and reasons for attending one school or another (all of which are valid), i have to ask, why would you attend oregon?
