Does a 4:20 mile or whatever Cain's 1500 converts to equal sub 15:30 on the track? Very few guys actually run a track 5K in high school, so I wonder where it stands?

There's a big difference between a 4:20 guy and a 4:29 guy. Probably most 4:20 guys could, some 4:25 guys, and almost no 4:29 guys.
The year I ran a 4:22 mile I also ran a 15:19 5000m.
I ran 4:02 for the 1500m in college and 15:15 for the 5K the same year. Official 1 Mile best was 4:22.
4:20 mile, 16:04 5k (track)
but i hardly ever ran the 5k, and it was run at a horrible time in the season during a windstorm, so I think I could have ran at least 15:30
1550 5k, don't think i could break 435 for the mile.

My friend has 4:20 and 15:14 for his 1609 and 5K track times.
1520 5k, 431 mile same season
suck
does it scale the same with men and women though? When Decker ran the mile record, was she probably good for sub 14:30 5k on the track?
How many 4:2x milers can run sub 15:30 (on the track, with good pacing)? I'd guess probably about 65-70% (err towards the lower side since it wouldn't be evenly distributed).
How many 4:24-4:29 milers (Cain-esque down to sub-4:30 level) can rub sub 15:30 (on the track, with good pacing)? I'd guess probably about 40-50% (err towards the lower side since it wouldn't be evenly distributed).
More important to note her 4/8 in there as well. A 2:05/4:20 guy might run 15 flat. A 1:59/4:20 more like 15:25. Still sub 15:30 though.
very true. full profiles are better gauges, especially if the athlete hasn't specialized or focused - either their racing or training - on any particular event.
4:28 15:02
4:17 - 14:22 miles
4:15 ; 15:48
4:30 15:03
wish I had brought that mile time down, was more of a 5k/10k guy though.
I've run 4:49y and 15:40. She can run well under 15:30 when it counts.
4:24, 14:50
Sam Wharton of Ohio has run a 14:46 (track) pr with only a 4:20.01 1600 pr after several tries.
4:11 1500m and 15:26 5k a week apart, both are prs.
