How was Lawi able to drop Jenkins and Estrada et al so easily? These guys can run 63s for a whole 5k and yet Lawi is able to drop then by throwing in a 63 and 64 off of a pedestrian pace? The same thing happened in the 10k. Was the weather shitty?
Well. More like 64s. My guess is that they were intimidated by Lawi and felt if they can't beat him they may as well just race for 2nd. In hindsight Lawi is probably kicking himself that he didn't give the 1500M a try. That seemed doable given how easy he ran the 10/5.

rupp ran that fast in high school
I hope any aspiring kid runner reads this:
LAWI LALANG BEAT EVERY SINGLE GUY IN THAT RACE (with the exception of Lelei) BEFORE THE GUN WENT OFF.
You could see it in the 5 and the 10 that nobody even believed they could run with him. They put him on top of the podium leading up to this race. There are plenty of guys in that 5k that could run under 13:35. Unbelievable.
Also, most of the guys were not on teams that were seriously competing for team points. There was the runner from Arkansas. I can totally understand him playing it safe and securing points for his team. But what did Estrada have to lose? Why not go with Lalang and see what happens?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
