that's impressive that he won. Amazing talent. My cousin ran for Oregon in the late 70's and 80's and won a couple of NCAA titles, so it's great to see Fleet win after Greer.
Who was your cousin?
Yeah, great wins for both.
Fleet going from unable to walk a year + ago...to Title.
I've talked with him, he's a class act and heck of a dedicated and focused athlete.
Nice win. Will he stick with school for another year ?

I hope so. No way to know, depends on scholarship availability and finances.
They probably did some planning after his first missed year.

Is your cousin Leann Warren?

Stick, you seriously need to get laid. Try another dating site.
Mac will stay and graduate. Nice to see the son of a sub 9:00 HS 2mi. guy from back in the day keep the family tradition moving forward.

He may be a class act in person, but that business of celebrating before he hit the line really rubbed me the wrong way. At the moment, I'm not a fan.

Maybe you can write a little guidebook called "Finish Line Etiquette"
I am sure it would make Amazon's Top Trillion seller list
Hey, look, Mr Fleet can celebrate any way he wants and different people will react differently. I happen to think it's classless to start celebrating before you hit the line .14 ahead of the guy in 2nd place.
Have to agree , as a big Mac Fleet fan , there are two things that piss me off.
1. First time he is in the big show, he says"I was licking my chops"
Realy? you had not won much, until now.
Not in HS nor anywhere until now, Andrews beat you in HS
2. Every meet we here how his Dad won what? The Cal HS meet? seriously? I think German ran a little faster

you must be rubbed the wrong way by 99.9% of all athletes then. it is down right odd when track fans complain about runners showing any personality or emotion! track IS a sport.

No we don't "here" about his dad. We "hear" about it, and he has nothing to do with that. Rawson the asshat has to do with it.
Watch this video - it is the full uncut one - if you want to understand his celebration (and his confidence, which, by the way, was warranted today, and you have to have in order to win an NCAA title.)
http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfield/index.ssf/2013/06/ncaa_track_and_field_for_mac_f.htmlGuess we'll have to agree to disagree about the celebration.
Duck: question for you on a different topic. On TV I was surprised to see what appeared to be quite a number of empty seats. Was I observing correctly, and if so, what do you think held down the attendance?

Watch the video and listen. The guy suffered through two years of not being able to run. He can celebrate anyway he wants...since he won. He's a young person, sometimes they have a lot of emotion.
And as he said...they do this every day, they know how fast they are going and where they are in space.
I would agree with you if he slowed down before the line.
Thanking the fans one step before the line? Big deal.
When you are a top recruit in high school, go to the best college program, every day is pressure.
People expect no less than greatness and anything less than an NCAA Championship you feel like a failure.
That was a good interview and you could sense the relief Mac is feeling and might even understand him celebrating before the line spontaneously.

If you watch the video, you'll know that he was watching the video board, knew where the line was before celebrating, and the "#1" finger was for the fans...ergo why he was pointing backwards.
Consider this kids life the past 3 years...2 years basically crippled...and as he mentions in the interview, fans around town were always expressing interest and wishing him the best etc.
As to the seats, the NCAA's always have some flux over the 4 days. It's been ages since anyplace in the USA could sell out all 4 days of the NCAA's. It's not a question of the city, it is a question of the sports relative place in the USA. Look at it this way...in Eugene you'll see some empty seats...in Des Moines you'll see an entire empty backstretch -- which you will never see in Eugene.
What kind of name is "Mac Fleet"??? I Hope thats a nickname?
