good performance and USA "A"
good performance and USA "A"
That was her seed time. The race doesn't start till 9:15 tonight.
When did she run 15:45? Or can you just postulate any time as a seed time? What should Sarah Baxter postulate as a seed time?
For the race in question, seed time doesn't matter. I'm sure Salazar simply put down the time that will give her the USA "A" standard. And please, stop comparing Baxter to Cain--it does a disservice to Baxter. Baxter is a very good high school runner; Cain is a world class runner.

Cain will run faster than 15:45.
Baxter is awesome but would have a very hard time breaking 16. 16:10-15 would be more likely.
That's just a seed time and means next to nothing, Salazar seeded Treniere Moser at 15:45 too and she's run 15:11 this year...
Cain can run much faster than that
...than 15:11? Maybe close to it, but then again Cain has shocked us before.

Cain would have won the NCAA 800m and 1500m. Her time tonight will be faster than the 5000m too. (Obviously I know Agostino would beat Cain in a competitive 5k, just pointing out facts on paper though).
Pretty dam remarkable this 17 year old is destroying competition. I still can't get over it yet. I wish I could watch it live tonight.
She's no different than the talented African girls her age that run similar times. Its good we have a runner who can really compete with the African women. I'd love to see how she does at World Juniors
Perhaps Moser will be Cain's taxi service to stay on pace for an A. This one like most/all? of Cain's races this year will put her a top of the straight at a pace to get a target time -in this case "A" plus a little. The she gets off the leash and it's-- you go girl-- see how many you can pass on the run in.

I thought she would run faster than that.
Baxter not comparable? Cain's run probably less than a half dozen 5k's, all in cross country. She's competed against Baxter twice at that distance (NXN finals), and lost twice. This is her first flat 5K. I would be overjoyed if she does run around 15:45 or better, but she certainly has no record of running close to that time in any 5K.
