Those seem like an awful lot of very fast times for one race. 6 or 7 are faster than the state record where I went to HS.

This is a non-story. Clearly the freshman is overly developed for his age and will likely drop no more than 10 seconds by graduation. However, the winner's swag level is highly impressive...

I was just at the meet (it's on my college campus), and indeed the winner was swaggin'.

Does anybody know if that is a national freshman record?

I was under the impression that Rob Finnerty, also of MN, had the national freshman record in a 9:06 from around 8 years ago.

You're a non-story. Any freshamn running under 9 at a legit age is a story. Overly developed? Yea ok...can't really tell squat from that pic and don't care. If he only drops 10 seconds it has nothing to do with overdevelopment but with his training/attitude. And if he did drop 10 seconds, that would make him a pretty big talent anyway.

And 2 sophomores in Michigan ran 9:05 I believe. California was relatively unimpressive timewise this year, but the 95 degree heat might have had something to do with that...

Also, I know that the sub 9s in Illinois at least were achieved with decidedly suboptimal splits- something like 4:38/4:19. I assume the same is true for some of those other races, as they were all in a championship setting.

Nationals could be even deeper and better than Arcadia if enough guys toe the line, though that has been a problem lately.

with every year that passes, I realize how crappy my own high school era was (mid-to-late 90s). There are Minnesota state-title winning marks from that era that wouldn't be in the top 10 in this race. Amazing.

In my quick glance I didn't even notice the other Stillwater guys. 3 guys under 9:10 in the same race, from the same high school!

Verzbicas ran an 8:53 2-Mile at the Midwest Distance Gala to beat Solomon Haile his freshman year.

I don't know whether there was a 3200m split in that race, but even if there wasn't, I'd think the 3200m national freshman record should be 8:53.

He ran 10:28 for the 3200 last year, and he only finished 28th or something along those lines at the state cross country meet. He also looks like a freshman.
