With the runners they recruit, it is surprising that CU only qualified 2 runners for nationals from the 800 to the 10,000, including the steeple, for men and women combined.
Anyone know what happened?

Yea, they did not finish in the top twelve at the west preliminary.
Maybe they are injured or saving themselves for XC.
Did the Austin heat affect them?
I also wondered if they had trouble with the heat.... would make sense.
They get guys that are better at cross than track.
I'm a big CU fan and I also noticed this and was disappointed. They just didn't perform well. For what its worth almost all of them are underclassmen.

I have good news and bad news...the good news is that all (or almost all) of the team (that performed so poorly) is returning. The bad news is that all of the team is returning.
Just one of those years.
Colorado have never had many at the NCAA track meet in recent years.
Why would Jake Huryz run the 15? He ran 13:36 as a red shirt soph last year!!

I thinks its because he ran like right around a 3:41 1500m this year and maybe he though his chances were better
Part of the problem is that in the West Region the competition is pretty tough. For the shorter events (1500, 800) even the first round heats can require pretty hard running with significant chances for not even making the 'quarterfinals' even for good runners. In the steeple, if you are in the 'wrong heat' and do not finish in the top 3 you are 'toast'.
I suppose that all of those from the upper Midwest, the non-southern Mountain states and the Pacific Northwest are likely to have heat issues. Of course, this covers so much of the region that disadvantage is narrowed a little bit. [For example, affected programs include Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa State, Minnesota, Colorado, Utah, Montana]

Hmm. I wouldn't bet against them next year. One bad meet doesn't necessarily mean much.
They are gonna be sick next year. Among last years 3rd place finish. They had only 1 senior (Van Halen) Jake Huryz will be returning as a senior and could be top 10. According to xc nationals there next 3 will be 2 sophs and a junior + Ammar Moussa coming as a redshirt soph?? Look for a top 2nd place finish. (I think NAU will finally win it all this year)
Boulder is at 5400 feetish, so its about 16.5 degrees F cooler than at sea level AND much less humid than Texas.

Add in Ben Saarel to the mix as well!
