Brenda Martinez - 1:58.18!!! Did anyone notice???

She barely got mentioned by the announcers. I thought that was unfair.

Great video of her 8 x 1K workout on Flotrack.

I hope she's not peaking too early.

Why no props for Brenda??? She's been killing it this year.

Did anyone else see her 'Tag' a 56.5 to then end of her WOW on FloTrack. She's gonna make some noise at Nationals.

Major Props to New Balance. They're picking athletes that are committed, work hard, and are gaining success. That's in addition to sponsoring tons of events and races like the Red Sox, Falmouth, and the NB Indoor and Outdoor Nationals. They made a great move a few years ago when they hired some new folks in marketing, maybe from Nike?

Yeah, hiring Josh Rowe (after he was fired by Nike) was a very good move. He's definitely got big ideas.

Martinez is ranked #2 in the world right now. #2! She should be getting way more press. If it wasn't for Cain, she most likely would be.

8x1k in high 2:20s is not the kind of workout one might associate with peaking too early. Also, Joe Vigil knows what's he's doing.

Looking at this list I am wondering how many ran their times clean. I would venture to guess not many.

Have you seen her husband? He looks about 230 pounds and it's not muscle.

Potentially peaking early is the only possible criticism for Martinez. She is out there racing, racing a lot, and running to win every time. With a win at USAs, the media will come around to giving her the attention she deserves. She was just overshadowed by Cain's amazing run.

Unfortunately, I suspect she is. That was an incredible workout she did a week ago. Those types of workouts are what has gotten her to where she is right now; however, as a 1500m runner, I would rather have seen her do that workout this week and save the peak fitness for the following week at USATF. The downside of having your work out filmed is you feel like you have demonstrate your fitness and you may push a little too hard. - This all assuming of course.

I wonder as well why the Gallagher threads are gone. Vigil is coaching her? Why doesn't Kastor go back to Vigil? Wonder why even Meb left? Something going on that hasn't leaked yet.

I get the same feeling. Just based on her races and workouts i've seen, she is obviously killing it this year, but also appears to be 'killing' herself. She's prd in everything from 800 to 5k this year already (I think?) and it's still so early! Of course, I hope this isn't the case, as I love Bmart and hope to see her do well when it comes time to do so on the big stage.

The workout on flotrack was filmed two week before it was posted on flotrack. She does seen to workout extremely hard but all the times she hits in practices r very specifically chosen by vigil. So it's not like she's feeling good and just killing herself every rep of every practice. if she were to somehow peak early it would be mostly vigils doing. His workout regime does seem really tough. I really hope she does well!
