If you listened to Rupp's interview during the 10K when he was in the booth with the announcers, he said that the pollen count was supposed to be fine.

Salazar is insufferable.

His runners got beat. That's all. It happens. Deal with it and move on. These excuses are not fooling anybody.

Honestly, look at Rupp in the interview video. He looks like he CLEARLY was affected by his allergies, his eyes were all puffy and his face and throat were red and irratated. It's also not an excuse, it's just a valid reason why he was not at his best on the day. He's obviously very allergic to pollen, and being that running is a hugely aerobic sport, obviously that's going to have an affect on him. Regardless, he still ran OK and this isn't where we want Rupp running well. We want him at his best at U.S.A's and at Worlds in the final.

It was hot, his allergies were acting up, and he's clearly not super sharp right now. Guaranteed he'll look better at USAs.

What he said is that he can't control the weather and that the status of the pollen count is something he leaves up to Salazar. Also, Rupp did show up to the meet wearing a mask. Here's a compilation of photos (click on the third one on top), and on the left side toward the bottom you can see Rupp, Ritz, and Farah trying to enter a gate, with Rupp wearing the mask. I saw this two days alone as a stand-alone photo and it was crystal clear that Rupp had a mask on. As for Farah, in his post race interview, Ritz talked about how sick Farah had been. Levins also talked about his lungs bothering him. So, amazingly enough, the only Oregon Project guy in the 5 who was healthy was Ritz! aggreed, I hate treadmills, but I have to run on them in June because of pollen count is so high, if I try and man up and go running outside, i get so sick it I become incapacitated for days and sometimes miss work. If don't have allergies, you just dont know.

I believe him. I've lived in Eugene for a number of years and I only have allergy problems when it is really bad. On Friday my whole body was aching, and I had problems on an easy run. On Saturday, I had trouble breathing and was suffering through a tempo at slower than my usual 1/2 marathon pace, which should have been a cake walk. There is no question in my mind that if Rupp suffers from allergies, his race suffered as well.

man, i was there this weekend for the meet, and i'm still sick. that was my first trip there, and i'd think twice about returning after that experience. my eyes were so puffy friday night that i could hardly keep them open.

When I had checked pollen.com Saturday morning, Eugene Oregon was 2nd in the US in their worst cities(highest pollen count) section. Obviously it wasn't ideal for Galen

Dennis hit the nail on the head. There is always some excuse with Rupp and Salazar before and after races and it becomes more and more pathetic. If pollen in Eugene is so bad then why does he live and train there? If he can hardly race because of the pollen count how is it that he is perfectly fine every other day to work out and train? One would think if he is affected by it so badly to the point of illness where it hurts his running it would make sense to move somewhere else. Oh but wait, its just a pathetic excuse
