So I've been trying to motivate myself the last few months to no avail. However, I have brought myself to complete a 7 week cycle ending this week (I thought the short build up would keep me focused). I told myself no matter what happens in this time I'm racing and finding out the ugly truth on my fitness. Problem is I just found out the prize money is 100 dollars (1st 100, 2nd 50, 3rd 25). Last year the winner ran 45 minutes, seems kind of ridiculous to me. So I'm making the hour trek to try and win some money.
Background
I'm 25 pounds overweight. I've run a 32 minute 5k years ago. Most of my training runs have been 7:30-8 minute pace. I have a couple runs a week where I really ratchet the pace down the last mile or two, but probably nothing faster than 6:30 pace. My mileage for the last 6 weeks have been 50-35-51-51-56-48.
Anyway, I was wondering if there is any type of workout I can do tomorrow to predict or indicate what type of performance I am looking at? The only hard workouts I've done have been fartleks and a 250m hill I ran 6 times at 5:40 pace.
Should I go to the track and run 800s? What's the best way to go about this? Can I run 45 minutes?
