That's only 18 seconds off the world record! Does anyone know if the course is world record legal (not too much of a net downhill, etc.)?

Whose mind was bottled?
Was it Abby... someone?
so point-to-point! how much net downhill?
he walloped kipchoge who ran 60'18 & has a 59'25pb
maybe kichoge not fully recovered from his recent superb M, but a thrashing is still a thrashing
i think you can forget net downhill, i doubt conditions were great considering other results
( edna ran more than 1'00 slower than her 67'41 from great north run ( another net downhill course, but it's not much & it's usually a windy finish with exposed last coupla miles ))
SuperSport used the wrong picture in the story. They used Isiah Koech's picture

the 10 mile split is a US all-comers record that meets IAAF qualifications, according to the posted article. that puts Geb in 2nd on the list. not bad.

A ventolin post about a runner\'s finish times in comparison to others without a projection that becomes fact in his mind? Ventolin, are you okay? Is that really you? Did someone steal your username?

This.
http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/files/2011/03/SD13_Elevation-2-6-13.pdfHalf looks to drop about 250' over 13.1 miles.
Nonetheless, fantastic run by Koech. He beat the field by a sizable margin. Second place was 60:18. Meb was 4th in 62:11.
I ran the half as well. Not point to point course. Relatively flat. A few little uphills. Cloudy and overcast in the 60s...a little humid but overall good running weather.
Meb has won it last 2 yrs with no real ocmpetition (Ryan Hall last year was there but wasn't healthy). This year he knew he had no real shot.
I talked to Meb afterward. He said the 1st 2 miles the Kenyans went out at 4:25. After that he dropped off. B. Koech=another Kenyan beast. I thought Kipchoge would win.
seriously think kipchoge can contend for a WR in another year or two if he keeps frogressing like this. i mean c'mon, the guy has 12:3x wheels (IIRC) and sub 60, not sure how many have that pedigree~

12:46, but yes no one has ever been close to his 5k/HM combo other than Haile Geb.

If that is right then that is quite a serious downhill. That does not qualify as "relatively flat."
Everyone and their mothers will be in San Diego next year. That's a blazing fast course.(Half)
I ran the half as well. The first four miles are a very gradual climb of 50 - 100 feet. It then levels off for a couple of miles before begining the net downhill. Much of the downhill is in the last three miles, punctuated by short, slight uphills, and is fairly steep. There are also some relatively short but steep downhills and uphills in the middle of the course, which traverses Florida Canyon in three different places. Koech's slowest mile was on the downhill section near the finish, while some of the fastest were on the early slightly uphill sections. To me he was more concerned with breaking the competition early than in getting the lowest possible time. He might have been even faster had he allowed more energy for the last three miles, which are 300 or so downhill.
I should add that his ten mile split, which is course eligible for a record is a net uphill.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
