Anyone know who is pacing the race or what splits the pacers are supposed to hit?
source??
if he's working out like that this week, he'll be tired for the meet.
Rupp has special exemptions to get high through his over-training adventures.
According to the Oregon Project Twitter page, the last hard workout was Saturday:https://twitter.com/OregonPJT/status/338788165563342849/photo/1Salazar said yesterday that Rupp, Ritz, and Levins were resting for Pre.No way Rupp ran this workout today or even this week, if that's what you're suggesting.

Seems like more of a 10k workout, if you are implying that the last set was the fastest.
30 laps hard with 12 laps rest and most of it at 63-65 pace. It is certainly impressive, but look up what Kennedy used to do for the 4-3-2-1 type workout. It was less than 30 laps, but it started with a 3:57-58 type 1600.
I think it would be great if he set the AR, and since he ran 12:58 last year, why would he NOT shoot for 12:53, but I just don't see that this particular workout you claim points to this.
umm, it'll be 75 degrees and a blazing sun when they run this 5000. How conducive to running a record 5k would you think these conditions are?
life experience....well, sometimes the best the athlete are lazy in practice
Of course a big variable is the weather. I just checked the weather forecast. Not sure what to make of it for race purposes. Per usual for Eugene, mild but significant wind during the day of 5-10mph. Cloudy but apparently no rain. Saturday night wind under 5mph but a low of 39. Pretty damn cold for a June 1 Eugene night.
Hopefully for the 5000M we get the best of all worlds where the wind dies down and its cool but not too cold.
If the Americans (let alone the Kenyans) cannot cope with 75F (which translates to 24C, definitely not the worst possible conditions) for 20 minutes, they have some serious soul searching to do.
These guys are used to the warm ups effect, one in which once you take off the tracksuit, the sweat developed immediately cools down once it is exposed to the cooler air (relative to body temperature) and as a result can help cool down your core temperature.
I believe anywhere from 5C to 33C (providing you are at least ready for the hot side) is perfect for distance running. However, the difference between 0 and 5 is far less than it is between 33 and 37. Even if you aren't ready for the hot side, 24 isn't even close to bad for a 5k
Back to the Topic: for the 12:50 barrier, my over/under is 4.5 for # of athletes to break it
under 2.5

Are you aware that 33C is over 90F ?

It's at midday Saturday, not evening.
And forget weather predictions in Eugene this time of year.
The one thing you can be sure of is it won't be too warm at midday.
Teg would be wearing arm warmers if he was racing.

The workout Kennedy used to do was very different. He would do one set of 1600, 1200, 800, 400 and would basically run all out for each repeat.

The NWS point forecast has it about 65 degrees, 50% humidity, north wind at 8 mph and 30% cloud cover at race time.

Your math could use some work. The 1600 is at 63, the 1200 at 62, the 800 at 60, and the 400 at 57. The average lap is 61.5; straight 62s is 12:55 pace.
It's a good workout. But I don't think it'll tire him for Pre. Heck- the 3:06 1200m is practically a recovery jog for him.

Kennedy did not do 3:57-58 for the 1600 in that workout. It was Daniel Komen.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
