Sorry if this has appeared elsewhere (on a quick work break)...Farah suffering from virus and is likely out of the big race.
Two sources: one Nike, one Pre meet official

He heard how fast the pace was going to be and dodged. Rupp is rubbing off on him...
good.....durably is part of being a great athlete!...I won't miss him!
Hope you are posting in jest. Otherwise, I demand one of the BroJos to pen an op-ed on athletes avoiding each other.

I wouldn't be surprised, two trans-continental flights in one week... Notorious for picking up bugs. That and young kids.
Farah still has a lot to prove in my mind
No doubt bekele's pace request was the primary factor.

You actually want the BroJos to write more op-ed pieces?
Man, I come here because very few other places aggregate the news the way they do, but I can't read a paragraph of theirs without cringing or wanting to punch them in the face.
If this is for real, it is another shining example of why big time track disappoints. Races get all hyped and then the participants start dropping. Sure seeing Bekele is great, but Bekele against the Olympic gold medalist in a bit of a grudge match, that's what was promoted. Heck, if Farah isn't there, will Bekele even want that fast early pace? Hope Farah really isn't out.

Dead on.
I doubt he ever intended on running. His fitness is way behind where it should be which is why he and Rupp were not in the same race. The only thing that suprises me is that it leaked this early. I expected it to come about 24 hours before the race.
Like any informed people in T&F believe he's got a "virus" ...
It must be a ploy
Is Rupp still running the Olympic Marathon Trials?
Two Olympic gold medals; 12:53; 26:46--he still has a lot to prove TO YOU. He'll get right to it.

Oh yes, a two gold medals yet he scared off by the threat of a fast pace. May I suggest you know little about what it takes to succeed at his level.

maybe he realized he wasn't in that good shape yet when bekele called for 13:18. or maybe he has a cold, like he said. too bad. and no americans in the race, very few in the 5k, and most skipped the 5k in new york. isn't it easier to get in a good time in the u.s. than flying to europe in july?

Isn't it too close for US Nationals ?

Oh great, another internet tough guy. I'll bet Noone is durably enough for you, huh tough guy?
He's not scared of the pace... there's a 0% chance that anyone runs a 13:18 first 5k. If the rabbit runs that fast, Bekele will be way behind with everyone else.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
