Bosley reported 48,741 registered for the event Monday, which was down from 51,681 in 2012. Race officials said 43,526 (89.3 percent) finished the race. Typically about 92 percent of those registered finish the race.
Bosley said registrations were well ahead of the 2012 pace prior to the Boston bombing and then they began a decline. Just two weeks ago, Bosley reported no significant decline in registrations.
"I think some people made the decision not to come," Bosley said. "Just, 'Let's take a year off and see how it plays out.'"
