So Ben True runs a 5000 7 seconds slower than Gebrhiwet. In ideal conditions with Gebrhiwet running a 12:50, does True run a 12:57? How feasible is this?
I don't think True was on anyone's radar as far as sub-13.

I doubt it.
What kind of shape was Jeilan in? I would say that's a more valid comparison. Gwhet was just bored and dogging the wind.
It will be a disappointment if he doesn't run under 13:10 this season. That's a tremendous improvement already. I think he could be in 13:05 shape now, and I think he'll break 13 in the next two seasons. I'm liking his consistency and competitiveness.
I could see it.....not sure if the high winds today hurt of help the bigger running?
but running 1317 today was impressive
Ben has a lot of improvement left in his curve, and seriously, does anyone remember Dathan running 12:56? That wasn't a surprise on the order of "I didn't think he had the talent" but more of one on the order of "Holy cow, that was out of nowhere." Right now, if you told me Ben True was going to be a sub-13 runner within the next year, I wouldn't be surprised.
spot on.
His confidence this season already has a tremendous arc. The DL races in a European summer will provide True with the greatest opportunity to achieve this very elite feat.
Two years ago True raced 5000m in the NY DL and finished 15th in 13:24 to Gebremeskel's 13:05 win.
...ARC...
1st at US15k Champs
6th at World Cross
1st at Payton 5k
4th at DL 5k
(also broke own BAA 5k CR by 25 seconds from 2012)
He looked pretty smooth in the final 100m. I was impressed and agree that in ideal conditions he's clearly sub-13. The highlight of the meet for me. Excellent run, Ben!
I believe only six non-African born men have run under 13: Dieter Baumann (who tested positive, in the famous/infamous toothpaste case); Mottram; Ritz; Teg; Solinsky; and Rupp. This is not easy to do, and True would have to improve his PR by over fourteen seconds, and he has already improved it by over six seconds already this year.

Fair perspective
Promising result with upside but still a long way to go
Wouldbe in very tall cotton
But has always had unique talent
Is he better at the 10000?
If he goes 13:05 that would be very impressive. Agree with the comment regarding Ritz - never would have predicted that.
Kennedy.
His 13:16 yesterday was probably better than his PB.
13:05 this season sounds right. More likely that he will go sub-27 first.
Gebrihwet looked very tired yesterday and Gebremeskel must
have been sick leading into this meet. he was not running well. They will bounce back though.

hagos is likely in lot better than 12'50 shape
definitely sub-12'45 currently & maybe as fast as 12'40
i don't no much about ben but i think sub-13 is a given
he may be nearer 12'50 !
he looked very tired in New York yesterday.
True's run was phenomenal but points at 13:05 given the
7sec differential.

eh ?
if hagos is in 12'40 - 12'45 shape, then 7s behind, bigged up to maybe more like 10+ sec for a faster pace indicates more like 12'50 - 12'55 for ben
he was within 2s of chepkok, a 12'51 guy at his peak & i think he's in similar shape as only 24 still
that's further evidence for nearer 12'50 than 13'00
No knock on True. However I get the feeling he is the type of guy who races closer to his best in tough conditions (World XC/ NYC) than others-- especially when those conditions are cold. Thus I agree that he is running great, but don't give him as much as a correction as others.
I'm an idiot--lucky seven.

It was great seeing True run so well given the conditions. But someone please tell Saucony to change that race kit stat. The design isn't terrible but the orange with two shades of green? Holy cow that's ugly.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
