Not sub 4 though
they came around at 3:06. with any sort of respectable middle lap pacing they would have gone under for sure. i sure hope he makes another attempt
henry wynne 2nd!!!!! 4:05.04!!!
saarel really blew them away though... big kick at the end
The pacer did a horrible job, he was supposed to go for 1:57, instead he did 2:02 about.

No one would have gone with him. He was starting to gap the field anyway. Plus, it was windy.
Ben Saarel -----> Pre mile????
thank you he will be a good one.

USA!!! USA!!!! YER BABY!!!!
He gapped the field by 2.3s in about the 150m or so that he lead. His kick is unbelievable.
meanwhile, montoya is jackin off in the back of the race letting the race get ahead of him.
I know it was windy but anyone predicting 3 guys to go sub-4 in this race doesn't understand how difficult and rare that is.

What a stupid comment. "With any kind of respectable pacing they would have done under for sure." For sure? Like all of them? That is really stupid comment. Only 4 american preps have gone under all time - and you suggesting "all would have gone under.? Like 12?
Is there a meet where he can get a proper attempt at sub-4:00? The conditions today suggest he could possibly be very close.

new balance nationals? hopefully a few dream milers do it and attempt sub 4
I don't think Saarel has a better sprint/kick than some others in that field - he is just not as tired in the final lap as the others. Strength. Altitude Training.
And Arroyo...needs to do some mileage. It's clear his problem is endurance not speed.
I also think Montoya's problem is similar to Arroyo's - he needs more mileage. Sprinting is not his problem. Hopefully college will get some strength/mileage under his legs.

If ever there is a reason to draft off a leader, it is BECAUSE IT IS WINDY
