I think 2 of the following guys will break 13 minutes in the 5k this year by the end of the summer:
Lomong
True
Derrick
Jager
Bumbalough

Good list. There could be more than 2. That would be awesome to see. I would love to see Jager do it.
True will run fast this weekend at the Adidas Grand Prix. Possibly sub 13:10
Derrick and Hassan Mead are in the stacked 5k at Pre.
Lomong is due for a sub 13

I like it! The dark horse pick!
But in all seriousness...Ben True. With Dejen and Hagos in the adidas GP with him this weekend, I bet like hell he will try to hang on.
You are forgetting German Fernandez who will shock with a 12:53
i really like Evan jager on this one... hopefully ben true will do it also.
Lomong will do it but no one else. Jäger will turn his attention to the steeple. True 13:10ish, Derrick 13:05ish, Bumbalough ?
What is the plan for Bumbalough? Didn't run Oxy, not in Pre, no A standards...something doesn't seem to be going according to plan, or the plan seems mysterious if there is one. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Galen Rupp. If you mean the next American under thirteen who hasn't previously run under 13, then I'm going with Lopez Lomong.
Derrick - 13:06
Jager- 12:58
Lomong- 13:01
True- 13:05
Derrick next year.

I agree. Unless Lomong does it this year, which I am not sure he will, I don't think anyone new will go sub-13 until chasing PR's next year. And I think Derrick is gonna be the one to do it.
Lomong will probably be 13:0x
True will probably be another 13:0x
Derrick may only be 13:0x by the end of this season, but I could possibly see him threatening 12:55 (if not 12:50) in his prime
Jager may be a 13:0x guy this season, but I could see him threatening 13:00 as well in his prime (as well as 8:00 SC)
Bumbi won't break 13:10 at all
As for Levins: I could see him close to 13:00 and under 27 this season, but I think he is much more likely to break 26:40 than he is to run 12:55. Could be a great marathoner in the next 5-10 years if Salazar finally figures it out (expect him to go up once Rupp goes up)
I question if Derrick has the wheels at this point to break 13 given his 3:40 at Oxy. Guys like Rupp, Solinsky, Lagat and Teg were all at least 5 secs faster at 1500m when they broke 13. He needs some Rupp-style long term speed development. Sadly he won't get that from Schu.

Remember that Ritz ran 12:56. Not exactly a speedster, that one.
Lomong or Derrick have the best chance this year IMO.

And then there was Ritz who went 12:56...I think Derrick is faster than Ritz.
Lomong will be under 13 this year, say 12:58.
True - 13:08
Derrick - 13:04, under 13 next year
Webb - 13:26
Bumbalough - has bad year, no PR
Jager - no improvement until after WC, then 13:07
Mead - 13:11
Cain - 15:27
Lomong 12:59
Derrick 13:05
Jäger 13:09
Bumbalough 13:10
True 13:10
0 or 1 newbies this year. If it is 1, it is Lomong.
i don't think jager will do it, but lomong certainly should.
lomong is your best bet this year, along with levins. i think we'll see rupp, lagat, levins, and lomong as our only sub 13s for USA this year.

I thought Levins was Canadian...
