kind of hard believe a guy who won a silver medal comes back the next season with no sponsor? he tell nike he deserved more or something?

My guess is he wanted Centro/Rupp money and Nike already think he ran the best he was going to run last year in the 1500 so they don't want to pay him that amount and other companies can't afford him.
It's because he's Mexican. Come on, how many olympic medalist runners in the US go without sponsorship? This country is still very much racist to a degree.

I understand why he did it but, c'mon... you are representing the United States. Save the Mexican flag waving for your parties, not the world stage.
The flag had nothing to do with it. If Nike wanted to secure the me Ivan market they would have loved the move. This is a simple negotiation. Manzani is asking more than Nike is willing to give. The same thing happened to Meb an Webb a few years ago. Meb went solo for a long time before signing with Skechers and Webb shopped himself around before realizing that Nike still had the best offer despite it being lower than his previous deal.
This is just capitalism my brothers.
maybe so, but he F'd up...and should a sponsor from Mexico!

This is totally and utterly incorrect.
The flag had something to do with it. Seriously dude, a SILVER MEDALIST in the premier running event at the Olympics gets DROPPED?
Meb was dropped by Nike because he was severally injured and underperformed due to the injury (see 08 OT). Nike wrote him off because he didn't perform for a number of years and was getting up there in age.
Webb never shopped himself around.
He's been on a Nike contract from the day he went professional. He generates the most interest out of any T & F athlete right now and always will because he is Alan Webb. He will be with Nike for his entire life because he is a living legend.

Another example of how racist this country is. He shows pride in his culture and you hear this crap. Did the silver medal not go to the US count? Was he not wearing a USA singlet? Did he not have the American flag in his other had? My God some people are sensitive. Get over yourself. A guy should be able to show pride in his culture once in a while without people crucifying for it. Just goes to show the racism that still exists in this country.
Marion Jones did her victory lap after she won the 100 in Sydney with a huge flag from Belize where her mom was from and a smaller US flag. Where is the outrage for that? huh?
Did Nike drop her sponsorship? ahh no. Why is this so contraversial with Manzano, but nobody has ever said a beep about Marion Jones doing the same thing? AND SHE WON THE GOLD! Check it out.

It's not, these are the same dipsh*ts who keep making all the derogatory posts about blacks.
It is unfortunate, but he lacks personality.
He is like Oscar from The Office.
At the beginning of 2011 Meb and Webb were weighing contract offers from Nike which both expired at the end of 2010. Neither liked their offer. Meb looked around a while and then came back to Nike after the deal had expired and they wouldn't extend. It took until August for Meb to find another offer with Skechers. If you read his book he makes it clear that he has made it a point to maximize his profitability and it's not hard to imagine that he negotiated pretty hard.
Webb also looked around and specifically spoke with New Balance. I can assume there were others. Despite any offers he may have had he came back to Nike. It's also not hard to imagine that his previous deal, which came during his American record year of 2007 and during the 2008 Olympic year, was going to be much more lucrative than the deal they would offer him after the 2011 season.
These are just negotiations. I assure you that Nike, a global company located in the most liberal city in the most liberal state in America doesn't care about Leo Manzano's Mexican heritage. Their big growth area is in taking soccer away from Adidas and any inroads into Latin America are a priority.

You miss many key points in your post and those missed points eliminate any credibility your post has.
1) Most Americans don't know Belize even exists. Marion waved the flag of a country that is on no ones radar.
2) Americans are racist towards Mexico. Waving a Mexican and American flag together stirs up many things racially and politically. I am not saying that it is right, but it is a reality.
3) Marion Jones was the most famous SPRINTER in the world at the time in the most recognizable event in the world, the 100m. She could give everyone the middle finger at the Games and still would have a contract.
What has Manzano done since London to deserve sponsorship?
All of those points are 100% correct and pretty much common sense.
I think the comments about Mexico are missing the point. The fact that Manzano is bilingual and can market Nike to both the US and Mexican markets ought to mean he is MORE valuable to Nike.
Nike would not pass up Hispanic money because it's "racist." Nike is in the business of making money by selling product to whoever will buy it.
The logical explanation is that Manzano is asking for more than Nike thinks he is worth. Simple as that. It's no different than buying a car or negotiating anything else. You haggle over price and you can agree on a price or not. Nike and Manzano haven't agreed on what he's worth so he is currently unsponsored. At least that's what logic says.

1. Female sports are under the radar, a foreign country is pretty much any foreign country to Americans, the thing is she is a female in a female sport so nobody cared.
2. Americans aren't racist to Mexico, but they're certainly aware that La Raza ("THE Race") is considered by Democrats/liberals as a respectable Hispanic civil rights group and are aware of their agenda to make parts of our country into parts of Mexico.
3. She number #1. Most famous female sprinter still = under radar. She could give everyone the middle finger but still have a contract because it is "sexist" not to reward women for doing women's sports.
I don't know what's going on now, but I'd be willing to bet manzano sees two Americans who he routinely beat last year earning nearly 7 figures annually and wants to be paid as much or more.
The thing is, you sign the monstrous contract out of college- like Centro and Wheating- and never again. Webb did it too (though his was quite a bit lower than those two, it was epic at the time).
Whenever Wheating's contract expires he'll be lucky to sign for 25% of what he initially got. Just the way it goes.
The one thought is they got all they could out of him and he isn't likely to do better.
But he is still going to be announced as the recent Olympic Silver medalist at every single event. The first American Olympic medal at 1500m in 40 years.
That is good promotion, regardless of subsequent results.
There is a lot of value in that.
I guess they are negotiating numbers, now.
They would want to get this done before USATF to get that value.
