Massive improvement for Cam. Will this translate to a 20 second improvement over 5000m?
I was worried about him over the winter, but everything looks fine (and more)...
He's now poised to break every single Canadian record between 2,000m and 10,000m this summer (who knows, maybe even the mile)...

Salazar was quoted earlier this year stating that he would be moving Cam away from the 170-180 mile weeks and focusing more on speedwork.
Provided that that IS what they did, a major improvement in the 1500m is to be expected.
He's supposedly doing 130 - 140 mpw, more weights and more quality. It might be a good year for him considering he was pounding out 180mpw in the fall.

You mean dropping volume and increasing speed work will improve someones 1500? (by 5.73 seconds apparently) There's a shocker. If Cam wants to be a 3:34-3:36 1500 guy good for him. Hopefully he's trying to be a 12:50 5k and 26:50 10k guy. (his 27:27 10k converts to a 3:32 1500 for some perspective) I won't be impressed until he runs a decent 5k or 10k. Don't get me wrong it's great to see a 1500 PR (from his weakest event) but I'm just not impressed yet. (yes I know it's early)

True, but as of now you've got to think that training with the gold and silver medalists at 10,000 in London shouldn't hurt his 10,000 too much.

Cam has been running between 3:42 to 3:45 since 2010. Now he busts a 3:36 (out of nowhere) in his first race of the summer. That's an incredible improvement...
What does he need to do to impress you guys. Run 3:30?
He's now ranked 7th (all time) in Canada. That's pretty impressive for a 10,000 guy...

Or it says that Canadians (except for a few like Sullivan and Hood) generally suck. The CIS is a great development system - should be dozens of sub-3.35 guys coming out of it on a yearly basis, or at least a bunch of sub-13.10 guys. Why isn't this happening?
As a guess, I would suggest that the majority of talented Canadian high school runners go south and run NCAA, not CIS. Also, Canada is a relatively small country, population wise, so producing dozens of sub 3:35 guys, or a bunch of sub 13:10 guys, is not a very realistic measuring stick.
I think he's great and he ran great at Oxy. I was simply responding to the notion that as part of Oregon Project he is simply training fodder for Rupp.

Didn't cam run 3:57 in the mile or so then? Which is equivalent to around 3:39.5. still a big PR but not quite six seconds. mile and 15 are pretty similar

It's funny how the Canadian National Endurance Training Center couldn't get any of their athletes to 3:36 last year yet Salazar does it on his first try with a 10,000m runner.
