Server charged me 4x for refills on soda

Should a taken it to a manager, almost no restaurants charge for soda/ice tea/lemonade refills any more.

What world do you live it? You order something you pay for it.

You sit at the bar and drink brown whisky the tender will keep your soda side filled. You take up a chair in the dining room you pay for your beverage.

I said buffet but it was really all you can eat. It's the same value. Wisconsinites love the challenge of winning the all-you-can-eat battle with the restaurant.

Did it say on the menu that cokes cost $2.00? Did it say that refills were free? If the answers are yes for the first one and no for the second then the problem is entirely with you.

No way. The default is free refills. I have only been in place I can recall that charged. And I have eaten in tons of restaurants in my life time.

here`s what the server thought: this guy is stupid enough to drink 160g of sugar, therefore,he is stupid enough to just pay for it....sucker!

In FL, TX, NY, NJ, and DE the default is free refills.

As others have said, the default is free refills. They should have it posted somewhere if refills cost money. Of the few places that I know of that charge for refills, all of them charge you much less for a refill than for the original drink. And all of them have it posted what the charge for a refill is.

Nervous hurts to clarify the refill policy with your server.

Server: "Can I get you another coke?"

You: "Are refills free?"

Easy breezy.

Did you ask for separate checks, or did they just present them that way (unusual, but not unheard of). If you (especially if it was you personally) requested sep checks it may have been a form of punishment abd method to increase the basis for the tip.

Did any of you friends order an Old Fashioned? Whiskey or Bourbon? Sweet or Sour? Did they muddle? DID THEY MUDDLE?

stealth-charging for soft drink refills is something that makes me never return to a restaurant

I think that is the rare place that charges for refills. I would have assumed the same thing. I would have said something to the server and maybe the manage. If I got nothing from them then I never go back and let them know why.

That's insane. Who the hell charges for soda refills?? Let alone 2 dollar refills?? Did you talk to the waiter or manager or just pay it without dispute? Sh**, for 2 dollars you could have got some cheap whiskey in that coke.

By your logic since they were half empty they should not have charged you for your meal.

When your view of "restaurant dining" is limited to Mickey Ds, WE BE MYSTERYMEAT AND STUFF and Mr Piggy Swinetrough's All-You-Can-Eat Buffet and Muffler Repair Shop your view of the world is unbalanced.

If you go into say Paddy O'Furniture's and sit at the bar all night drinking cola do you really think 2.00 bucks should cover the bill?

Waiter/waitress obviously sussed you out as a punk that is all talk and no action, and loaded up your check. And you proved him/her right by not speaking up and standing your ground and questioning the bill or demanding the refills be removed from the check. You meekly pulled your wallet out and went home. America is proven to be great once again.
