Dealing with obnoxious runners?

Why didn't you just keep accelerating past him? Sounds like you gave him an easy victory

hit the gas going INTO a curve and do not let up until the next curve ya got him

start clipping his heels not that I have ever done this but it was done to me painfully for about a mile by a tough chick who was also very pretty in a road race she finally got tired to clipping me and ran off for the win I got second in a little red neck texas town where women do not beat me it was funny stuff

Let me get this straight...you were in a race and found it obnoxious that someone wouldn't let you keep the lead? Thought I had heard it all...maybe now I have.

Look him straight in the eye and ask him to be honest> then and only then will your relationship grown and you will both develop a mutual respect for each other.

I was doing the 3200 today for the final meet of the season. And some dickless prick was sitting on my a$$ the entire race.

I was going for a PR, but this gutless little prick refused to help out so I slowed it down to teach him a lesson. I was going about 2.5 seconds per lap slower than I wanted to.

Whenever the little tiny dick tried to pass me, I sped up just enough to discourage his cowardly, balless a$$ and then hit the breaks.

It was rich. You could tell I got into his head. He didn't have a clue what was happening.

This is what makes racing so fun.

So YOU were going for a pr. In a time-trial type of race. Yet YOU purposefully stayed behind a guy who runs 20+seconds slower than you in an attempt to be rabbited. Then YOU continued to quit going at the pace YOU wanted. Then blamed him for YOU failing at YOUR goal.

The track is 8lanes wide. you claim to be so much faster. Yet the entire story pins the problem on you. Man up and take responsibility instead of pushing the blame on everyone else for your own failures.

Why didn't you just run in the lane next to him until he slowed down. He would have eventually done this if you are supposedly faster than him

I tried to, but he kept accelerating and then getting in front of me. I moved to lane 2 and picked it up, he moved to lane 2 and picked it up. His priority was knowing where I was so he could obstruct me.

You didn't reserve a PR or a win.

Going to the front and slowing down to try to control the pace early is a strategy sometimes employed by kickers. Lagat has done this many times and there is nothing wrong with it.

But moving into different lanes (or moving out as Merga has done to Lagat to deny him of perhaps 2 medals) to obstruct someone is a violation of the rules. If I was your coach, I would file a protest, and perhaps talk to the opposing coach about the issue. Your coach can also talk to the officials before the event and ask them to be aware of the obstruction issue.

There is a way of dealing with people like this which is not painless to the obstructor. Go out and attempt to go around the guy, like move into another lane. If he cuts in front of you, get RIGHT behind him (leave no space) and MAINTAIN YOUR PACE. Expect that he will slow down in front of you, and when he does this step on his heels and trip him.

Apart from a rules violation, your only hope is superior fitness. He's covering your surges but by extending the pace you turn a game of red light green light into a balls-to-the-wall distance race.

So why didn't you just keep picking it up? Or just put in a 100m surge? If he's slower than you, then he would not have been able to keep it up. You got beat by an inferior runner who used superior tactics.

I don't believe that he obstructed you with just you and he battling on the track. It's impossible to do so for 8 laps. Are you claiming if you went wide into lane 8 he'd have seen the move and gone with you into 8?

It only takes a couple strides to get along side him. At that point, you can either maintain your alledgedly superior pace and burn him out, or throw in a 50 meter sprint and go from there.
