Dream Mile needs a pacer or none of those boys are going sub 4.

Arroyo will take the pace out.

I do not believe they were at 2:04 at 800m, but my memory might be fuzzy.

just watched that race. 2:04 at 809m, about 2:02 high for 800m. then he split roughly 29 until 1k at 3:33, 30 for 3:03, 27 for 3:30, 29 for 3:59. this was based on me hand timing from a youtube vid.

In all the previous HS Dream Mile races they haev had a pcaer so would think they would this year as well.

I someone with knowledge of the Dream Mile saying the pacer was going to go out in 1:57 this year.

Would make sense. Have the pacer aim for 1:57 mid so even if he runs 1:58 mid he'll pull the contenders through with a chance at least. And if he actually hits 1:57 mid then the top guys would come through in great shape.

I personally believe that this is why Athletics is not exiting to the general public anymore who for the most part have no comprehension of times.

This is the dream mile we're talking about buddy. At the Olympics or World Championships, when all the fast times have been run, then yes, I am interested in watching a race that closes the last 1k in sub 2:30 and the last lap in 53 (for a 5k for instance). But here, where no one is interested in watching high schoolers in running a 4:07 with a 54 last lap but rather seeing how many high schoolers can go sub 4...that's what is going to get the crowds pumped at the stadium--that is the feat to be accomplished. I'd almost be willing to bet that American track fans at the stadium would rather see a couple of kids go sub 4 than watch a 5k race that is won in around 13:10 with a 53 last lap. Just my 2 cents.

A majority of the big European Diamond League meets have pacers, and that didn't prevent some exciting races from happening.

I think it would be much more exciting to see two to four guys dipping under four AND racing for the win in the end rather than a relatively slow three laps and a 55 last lap for a 4:02+

They need a pacing device like in greyhound racing. A little marker that is going exactly 4:00/mile pace. Would make for good video, also.

Anyone who runs > 60s should be pulled.

who cares. 4:00 is so arbitrary. I much rather see a sit and kick race.

So, what you're saying is that, although fast times are his idea of what's exciting, that's not really the case for most people?
