everyone(kellogg) is talking about how Lydiardeque everyone was training during the good old days but i call that BS, just look at the logs of Greg Meyer or Steve Scott or Bob Hodge or..:good mileage with occasional real high mile weeks but the average isnt that high(100 or less) and more important: quality sessions the whole year round.Look at the Greg Meyer log on Hodges site:track sessions, races ,hill sessions the whole year round so there is no classic Lydiard-pure aerobic training buildup.
Yes, Frank Shorter ran high-mileage but he also was a high-quality trainer with 2 track sessions per week most of the year + hard tempo-runs + hard long runs + additional easy miles.
Even Mr.Malmo was a high-quality trainer doing one-two track sessions per week as his logs show.
Not to mention the real low-mileage-high quality guys like Marsh,Durden,Moore or Padilla....
