Dopers run well at Indy 500 Mini-Marathon

this makes me sick. But what can we do to stop it?

Write a letter to the race director expressing your disappointment with the situation. By itself this may not be enough to provoke a change, but at least it lets them know that folks are aware of what is going on.

Alene Reta also just took 4th place in the Hyvee Half Marathon (formerly Drake on the Roads Half Marathon), which had a ridiculous prize purse this year. I think it was like $12,000 for first?

This guy ran a ton of tiny races, 5ks/10ks in upstate NY that offer bonus money for course records. In the past you could show up year after year at a few of these races and win in 15:20/30 then come back the following year and run just hard enough, say 15:18/19, just enough to keep cashing in on the bonus money year after year. Well he came along to one race and blew out a 14:20 when the next guy was close to 16:00. He did something similar at another 10k race, running flat out putting the record out of sight, and essentially forcing himself to have to run that much harder the following year to get the bonus money again. Some of the times he is running now are not even comparable to when he was at peak form in the early 2000's. He could compete with the John Korir's and Kahlid Kannouchi types. I think he had low 27 10k track speed. He was a super talent without drugs.

Any race can say something like "no person who has ever tested positive for any performance-enhancing drug will be eligible for prize money at this event."

Alene Reta is a super doper, here in Mexico has been DQ several times in some races, but then he goes to southamerica and again wins everywhere (no doping test)... God, I hate this guy!

Juamarti, do you know of any specific races where Alena Reta was disqualified in Mexico? I have also heard those rumors, but the Mexican federation does not forward the cases to WADA, so he doesn't get suspended and just goes north or south and keeps racing. If you have any specific information, please share!

He was DQ in LALA Marathon 2005 or 2006, and in the Cancun Marathon 2012.

Of course it won't. These runners are not sanctioned. They can compete wherever they please, and blocking them would be illegal.

No, a race can determine whatever rules they please. I'd like to see more races going American only with their prize money- what's the point of financially supporting international runners, esp. convicted drug cheats? I don't know why races such as this continue to offer such large purses, while not having drug testing.

you guys talk as if he doped in the past couple of years, his drug conviction was 13 years ago. There is no life time ban... so its not fare to impose one - race directors cannot ban him on any basis.

You hate him because you think he is cheating- but that does not rise to the standard of banning.

I am amazed that in his late 40's this guy can still win races.

So? Galen Rupp and Mo Farah are dopers as well... Rupp was middling 5k guy who was getting dropped - then turns to drugs and becomes world beater. So they dopers too. Disgusting to me.

The mini is a joke anyway. The race caters to walkers and run-walkers and doesn't give a sh!t about elites. Hell they take in close to $2 million in entry fees, and barely pay out a prize purse. Most of the money goes to fund a parade later in the month.

If you want to be a squeaky wheel, maybe write a cogent, well-thought out letter to the Indy Star. They suck too, but someone might actually have their mind changed.

This is ridiculous. I can't believe well brought this crazy thread to the front page. The whole testing process and the rules are broken. These guys live in the US so if USada wants to test them they can test them. Alene lives in NYC and he leaves his address at every race. If a race director does not test it's not his fault. He is in his late 40s and he clearly not in the same shape and runs smaller races toakr extra cash.

You should be blaiming the testing process especially for past offenders.

There is a problem with some of the opinions on this forum. Lots of anti foreigner speak. Which is a sign of stupidity and desperation. Take us back to the dark ages
