#3 AT HS 1500m-Elise Cranny at Payton Jordan

She was a 5:02 miler last year ... then kind of stunned everyone with a 4:40 mile indoors. Now this.

It's not even May and there's 3 girls under 4:20 already this year in high school (Alexa Efraimson 4:19).

Yeah it seems the U.S. is starting to produce some elite track and field talent younger and younger now. Which can only be good for the sport in the U.S.

Cranny is doing it as part of her HS team, that is great. None of this "I'm too good for my team Mary cain crap". Go get her Elise.

Except that Mary Cain is too good for her high school team. She's too good for most college teams, in fact. If there was no Mary Cain there would be no Elise Cranny or Alexa Efraimson. That's the beauty of the sport, one standout can raise the game for an entire nation of athletes.

Another young female runner who lists their idol as Jordan Hasay.

The Hasay legacy will roll on for years and years. Best thing to happen to women's running in decades.

Yes big props to Elise, she broke the Colorado soil record 4:47 after anchoring her teams 4 x 8 to a 9:27. Sure she's by far the best on her team, but its still a quality team. It's quite odd to say Mary Cain is too good to train with her team, even an average group of boys distance runners could easily keep up with her most of the time. Also agree with the people crediting Jordan Hasay, for inspiring these girls. And honestly I don't think Cain has much to do with these performances, most people only heard who she was last year.

I think it's reasonable to say Cain's too good for her team because she can compete with pros right now. There's no reason for her to run high school meets. This will be even more apparent when she lowers the 1500 HSR again and maybe even the 800 record. I'm not trying to say that Cranny deserves any less credit, only that Cain is forcing the other girls to lower their times for them to stand any chance of beating her.

6th for Cranny. Cain has four better times and Hasay has one.

Nevertheless, an outstanding effort by Cranny.

Will any of these girls run an open mile this year? Polly Plummer's record of 4:35 (no 1600m doesn't count either)is softer but until they run a complete mile, the record is still hers.

Cain already ran 4:32.x indoors this year didn't she? Wouldn't that be the all-time HS mile record?

I, for one, was not running 4:11 as a sophomore. Heck, I didn't go sub 4:11 until my senior year...

How fast is the fastest miler at Cain's school?

Hasay was only 0.57 seconds faster than her in HS and Hasay was A BIG deal. Season is not over yet...

See i disagree, she ran nxn(a high school meet) and lost. She would benefit from training partners(boys) and the social interaction and support of her female teammates. She obviously doesn't need to run regular meets buts its sad that she is passing up state championships.

I also think it is ridiculous that Salazar would get any credit for Cain success she was unstoppable before he started coaching her.

If she got worse would we blame him? You know how many fast young girls don't improve much by the end of HS and beyond? It's not at all ridiculous.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but her coach is Jason Hartmann.

Pretty sure the reason Efraimson is working hard to become fast is to beat her in-state rivals, Katie Knight, Amy-Eliouse Neal and Megan Beauchene. She probably couldn't care less about Mary Cain.

Well, she might not have had that many opportunities to run really fast miles since she is from Colorado and likely faces the effects of altitude in most of her races. Where was her indoor mile?
