Anyone go to their 30-year high school reunion?

I just went to my 30 year reunion. It was not as far to travel as it would be for you, so it was an easier decision. For me, it was worth the hour drive.

I enjoyed HS. It was a small school and wasn't very cliquey. There were relatively few people that I did not like. I have kept in touch with a few people, but most of the people at the reunion were ones that I had not seen in 10+ years. It was worth reconnecting with them. It was interesting to see everyone. The best part was that most people seemed "real" and were not worried about impressing everyone else like they may have been at the 10/20 year reunions.

We had a 5, 10, 20, and 25 year reunion - the 25 was just this past October - and I went to all four of them. It was worth it, even for the people who didn't particularly enjoy high school. Interestingly, the crowds at the 20 and 25 were mostly different people, although there was certainly some overlap. The 20 year was all about activities for the spouse and kids, while the 25 was just an outright throwdown party - no spouses.

I'd go. Very few people go to a reunion and regret it. You will probably hear "I always wondered what happened to you after graduation." Just smile and tell your story. People mature a great deal after high school, don't be surprised if you enjoy their company much more now than you did then.

I went a couple of years ago to my 30th. I had a great time and was great seeing my old friends I had not kept in touch with. Also great that most of the guys were bald and out-of-shape. It was cool having all my hair, being in bettter shape than everyone there by far and looking much younger than everyone else. The women, for the most part, had not aged that well.

Next year would be my 10-year high school reunion. Legit question - how likely is it that single guys and girls hook up with each other at HS reunions? Someone told one time that the single women only go to hook up. Is that true? The 10 year and 20 year marks are of particular interest to me.

Are you rich? Is your spouse hot? If yes to both, then go. If no to either, I'd stay away.

Went to my 15 year - had a little fun. The women looked great, and most of the guys looked like their Dad. I was in great shape, and my spouse (at the time) was not diggin' the attention I was getting.

Went to my 30 year and had a blast. Most of us had reconnected by Facebook, which really eliminated a lot of the disconnect we had (I live half the country away, but were as comfortable with old friends as those who still live there). The guys actually looked a bit better - really hadn't aged much since the 15th. The women looked tough. Except my wife, who is actually a year older but wicked fit and hot (not for her age, for any age). I think we both laughed tons at the attention we each got. Oh, this was not the same wife I brought to my 15th.

Go, have fun. Bring a spouse. You will enjoy.

I'm coming up on the 20 year one. I didn't go to the 10 year, have no real desire to go to the next one. I live about an hour away, and I already stay in contact with the few people from HS that I consider real friends, so I see no need to go.

My 50th is next year.

The school closed 2 years after I was graduated.

I did no go to my graduation nor the prom. Other than two teammates, my coach and a girl I knew from before HS I have not seen or heard from anyone nor have I missed hearing from any HS classmate these last 49 years.

Living in NYC the HS as the center of teenage social life was not the norm. More often it was neighborhood friends from various schools that made up your 'hanging out friends'. Growing up there were somewhere around 30 kids on my block alone and none went to the HS I picked most went to the Public HS that was a little closer or private/religiously affiliated schools. I chose the one with the best track coach.

I skipped my 10 yr reunion, went to my 20 year reunion and had a blast meeting up with friends and acquaintances I hadn't seen in 20 years. In contrast my 30 yr. class reunion was kind of subdued and depressing: just about everyone had really aged (except the ones who had taken botox injections), had slowed down, and seemed to accept their lives for what they were rather than remaining ambituous, interested in networking, and so forth. Plus some classmates I had enjoyed seeing at my 20 yr. reunion didn't make it to this one. I'll probably try to make it to my 40 yr. reunion, but am bracing myself for more of the same.

If you're going to catch up with old acquaintances, then yes it is worth it. If the motive is to impress everybody with how successful you became, then forget it.

Personally, I went to year 10, and most of the friends I wanted to see the most never showed. I have skipped the rest but contributed to the biography booklet the committee puts out. It was a very big school and I really only had about twenty or so kids in my grade that were friends. The rest were just familiar faces and names. I'd rather go to a reunion for the cross country team.

The ten year reunion is all about showing off. Lots of $35K a year millionaires trying to impress each other. By the twenty year, people have settled down a little bit and are more real. This is even more the case by the thirty year.

My 30th was two years ago. I never went to any HS reunion, even though I participated in three sports at the state level, and was all stste in two - CC and track. I was too busy getting my Master's at my 10th, kids, wife etc. I am sure I believe I am more sucessful than most of my former classmates. Did not like most them then, and have nothing to say to any of them now.
