I'm a sophomore who has been doing badly almost all year. After track ends, I'm going to take 2 weeks off then gradually build up to training much harder than I ever have before so I tear it up in xc, but before I do that, I wan't to break 5:00 for the mile at least one time. Here are some of my races I've had so far in outdoor:
Week 1: 5:13 mile, went out in 65 and died really, really badly
Week 3: 2:23 800m, and 11:35 2 miler
Week 4: 11:36 2 mile, did absolutely terrible
Week 5: 2:21 800, went out in 70 and couldn't change gears
Week 6: 5:07 mile, went 75, 78, 79, 74, then 15 minutes later went 2:22 800, going 72, 70. middle of week did a workout 5x 400 with 90 sec rest, some recovery, then 4x200 with 200 jog recovery. Went 70, 70, 72, 72, 75; 34, 34, 32, 32
Week 7: tomorrow I'm racing the mile
Do you think I can break 5:00? my 2 mile times look absolutely terrible, I know, but i think it was a matter of not knowing how to race a 3200. In the 800 i should be able to go sub 2:20, but always go out too slow. When i went 5:07 and went out in 75, i felt like it was too slow and I wasn't able to change gears well. Any tips to break 5:00? 5k in xc on very hilly home course was 18:40
