This guy is a machine in the tri world....Olympic champ and unbeatable in San Diego yesterday. How will he do in a track 10k at Stanford next week?

I dislike the triathlon bravado as much as the next runner, but I re-watched the Olympic triathlon the other day, and this guy is in every way the real deal. Looks like a true runner. I'd say he runs in the ballpark of 28:30.
His 10k PB is 29:15 from a road race in December 2011. But he hasn't run very many and none since that one.
He ran in the ballpark of 29:05 in the "10k" leg of the Olympic triathlon for what it's worth.
this is huge! Whether he runs well or runs like crap it will be exciting either way
I'm interested in this because there was a lot of ridiculous media talk after the olympics that he could 'challenge' Mo Farah because of his 10k time in the tri.

where?
in your head?

he is not in 2830 shape yet! he has had 6 weeks of hard training. too bad this wasn't later in the year or something. he dominated san diego yesterday and ran 29:30 but the course was slightly short, probably should have been more like 30:00 30:15 or so. i think he will run 29 flat or thereabouts right now in the 10k.
I don't think the media was stating he would challenged Mo Farah but most people were surprised that he is so capable of running a time only a minute slower than the Olympic champion after swimming and cycling for miles. He seems like he might well be capable of being a genuine elite level 10k runner.
Though Ali himself says that would take a lot of work, as improving at the top requires a lot more work for each small improvement. Though he did say while his heart is a Triathlete his head has been turned by the 10,000m
28:49...or maybe closer to 26:00 if he can run a 22.5 lap 10K (10% short like tri courses are allowed to be).
his head hasn't been turned by anything. he just wants to see if he can qualify for the commonwealth games and do the tri/10k double.
he is a triathlete through and through, the best of all time. a fun diversion to keep things fresh going toward rio.
I can't wait until he runs significantly faster than all he tri-haters on here. Brace yourself, the butthurt is coming.
Is it going to be mentally challenging for him to run around a track with a bunch of people surrounding him compared to the openess of the road?

He races bikes at 25+mph in groups just as big as a 10k heat, I'm sure he'll be ok in a pack for the first 10 laps until it thins out...

Don't know what your point is, but the Olympic Triathlon 10k where he ran 29.05 was accurately measured.
If he's under 28:30, it's going to be too traumatic for all the guys on here who can't stop themselves from chiming in about short run courses in triathlons.

The best of all time? Have you heard of Lance Armstrong?!!!
What will he have to run for the LetsRun crowd to deem him "legit"? We can speculate all day on what we think he can do, but what would he have to run to validate tri runners and their race splits? 28:30? 28:15? Or would 29:00 satisfy you? Many say his 29:09 at the Olympics was BS because of the "allowed" 5% deviation in course distance, so if he matches 20:09 on the track, would people think he was legit, or would they just say "he should have run that fast because he did it in a tri"?
This is approaching a new horizon in triathlon. We've had Lukas V go from track to tri (albeit with a tri background), but we've never had a true multisport athlete (top tier swimmer/biker/runner) move into the higher echelon of single sport competition.
carol montgomery wasn't a true multisport athlete?
