I'm a high school girl (junior) who runs the 800m. I am feeling frustrated because I cannot seem to improve my 800m time. My coach likes to give 8-12 200m repeats for a workout with around 2 min rest in between, and I normally hit 32-34 secs on those. My PR in the 800m was the first time I ever ran the 800m in my sophomore year, and that was 2:42. My 200m repeats sophomore year were 33-35 secs. Then I was out with stress fractures for the rest of the season, and here I am a year later, frustrated as ever because I was really hoping to run sub 2:25, but I can't even run sub 2:45.
I don't have a lot of speed. My 400m split in the 4x400m is only around 1:07, maybe 1:06. In an 800m race, I usually split a 1:12-1:14 for the first lap. Any tips on improving my time? Is there any hope for me to run sub 2:25? How should I build endurance for lap #2? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
