I'm constantly amazed when I think that YouTube is only eight years old. I have difficulty remembering the Internet (or life!) without it.
I know that people say things like, "The Internet: where religions come to die," yada, but I think they mostly mean YouTube. Its influence has been vast.
Holy crap on that first video. A four man field - hall of famers all.
Wow, these are cool.
Interesting that arguably the greatest American marathoner of all time was dead last in that 2-mile. Also interesting that I knew how it had to end (didn't know the results, but figured Lindgren had to take it) but was still rooting for the upstart Pre.
that 2 mile race was insane
probably one of the longest videos of pre (and certainly lindgren) on youtube
bump,
these videos are too amazing to fall off the front page
how fitting that I just received my new hot of the press copy of Gerry Lindgren's Book On Running autographed by gerry himself to me
Thank you for posting this!!! Where do you guys find these videos?
Those were great - especially the 2 mile. Lindgren was a beast! Thanks for posting.

Agree, but unfortunately most of these kids have barely heard of these guys (with the exception of Pre) and some probably not at all, so they have little interest.
Where would have Lingren, Pre, Liquori and Shorter finished with these times at Arcadia this year?
Lindgren could have pulled away to win it.
What is up with the NCAA champ surging and toying with a HS senior throughout the 2mile in the first race? Then didn't stop to shake his hand afterwards. Was there already bad blood?

Shorter and Liquori didn't run well at this meet. Pre and Lindgren would have gone 1-2 at Arcadia.

Both were extremely competitive. Lindgren wasn't going to cow tow to a HS kid at this point and Pre was.....well, Pre.

Post of the week.
Good lord, I thought that over the decades I had heard/seen everything on Pre, this was surreal seeing him in this HOF/only field. Anyone know the venue?
Just the body language and gestures at the starting line are fascinating. Also the kids sprinting on the outside of the curve each lap was awesome.
Considering the obviously slow surface and reported winds, one has to think that this rivals Pre's 8:41 for the full distance in better conditions. Gerry looks like he was in sub 8:30 shape.

Lindgren was a freshman.

no
Gerry graduated HS in 1964
This race was in 1969
Gerry was a 5th year senior (would be given 6th year of XC eligibility for a long reason I don't feel like typing)
