I am a high school junior and recently at a dual meet I was wearing a headband I had intended to race in heading over to the starting line when one of my coaches told me to take it off to be safe. Has anyone heard of any high school running event where headbands would actually be banned or lead to disqualification? Or was he likely just being over paranoid? Not a big deal but my dream is to look like Evan jäger as much as possible which is very hard without racing with a headband
It is not specified in the NFHS handbook. The closest the rulebook gets to headbands is:
Rule 4-3, section 3, Art. 3d
"Unadorned devices such as bobby pins, barrettes, and hair clips, no longer than 2 inches, may be worn to control a competitor's hair."
Clearly they are talking more about hair controlling devices.
I do not see any rules regarding socks, hats, wristbands, or headbands in the NFHS rulebook, though your state's rules may apply in addition to those set forth by NFHS.
Officials can correct me if I'm wrong on this.
My HS coach wouldn't let me wear a bandana around my head as a headband.
