With your own money?
I bought mine at 17 after having a summer job. My parents only would buy me ugly trainers on sale so I saved up and bought yellow and black NB.

Nike Air Pegasus.

Bought before my first season of high school xc in 1996.
My parents bought me $40 Pegasus in '86 when I was a HS freshman. Over the summer of '87, Air Max came out and I offered to pay half to get them. They covered the whole $75 though, and I repaid them by having a breakout year. Not sure at what point I started buying my own shoes.
In 1970-71 I got a pair of Converse Track Stars - a pretty good shoe at the time. It was white canvas with a blue stripe/red star - like a thinner, elongated chuck taylor. Not much to train in but good for racing. Would give anything for a pair to cruise around in today. Onitsuka Tigers were hard to find, had to go to Germany for Adidas/Puma and Nike not born yet, new balance was a baby and had this leather shoe with a catapillar tread.
My first pair of running shoes was my junior year of high school. They were grey Saucony with a white bottom.
We were told not to get black soled shoes that would mark the carpet when we ran inside on the third floor for indoor track practice.
I am sure it was my parent's money, though.
I am not sure what I wore my first year of college but was excited when I started getting free shoes (Adidas) the next year when I started running fast.
After college I was with Reebok for a bit but got enough shoes for two years.
Then when I started buying shoes with my own money and made them last too long and probably lead to more foot pain than I should have had.
Just for a laugh the "Converse Track Star!"
Own money---nope...
Etonic Streetfighters, circa 1980. Front half of the shoe was royal blue suede, so everytime your feet sweated, you socks turned blue!
With my own money I bought 12 pairs.
Can't remember all the names...
A pair of Lydiards!
Puma
Tiger
Nike
Nike
Nike
Nike
Tiger
etc.
Worked washing dishes at a restaurant at night, after practice.
All I spent the money on was running shoes, running books, music.
Gary Murckhe sold me my first pair of supernovas back in the days when he drove around in his station wagon--before he opened Super Runners Shop
brooks adrenaline gts. Before that I ran in trainers. I thought I needed a ton of cushioning when I was a frosh in hs. My first spikes were asics corridos or something like that, about the equivalent of nike rivals.
Nike Air Max Triax '96.
Great shoe!
Converse World Class Trainer and Nike LDV
Not sure of the model, but they were Nike, white rubber outsole, blue nylon upper, little to no cushion, trained in them and raced in them for two seasons (xc and indoor) this was 1972-73. Bought them at Blue Ribbon sports, think it was in Holliston,Ma, old renovated apartment I think.

I paid $7.50 for the pair. Worth every penny.
These asic tigers
Nike Free 5.0s
They were also my second and third pair.
In 1973, Adidas Gazelles for $13, then a pair of Tiger Marathons for under $20.
Nike Boston-also known as the Nike "Obori." I bought them in the Fall of 1974, my sophomore year of high school. They cost me $8.00 (B grades-blems) at the Nike employee store/warehouse on S.W. 142nd in Beaverton, OR. The money came from my job as a dishwasher in a restaurant.
