I was watching the men's steeplechase on TV and they got to the first barrier in 6 seconds which means it was only about 40m into the race.
I don't steeple, I don't coach it, and I'm definitely no expert in it, but I thought that the runner ran for half a lap or more before they reached the first barrier. Maybe it's just another way to run the event. I thought it didn't matter whether the water jump was inside/outside the turn.
Am I dumb or did they screw up?
