According to their respective Twitter pages, both are running the 10000, and Flanagan will be aiming at the "A" standard.

Conversely, Flanagan and Goucher announce they will not run WC marathon. (at least by implication)

How so? What if they miss the standard or somethin?

Not necessarily, but with no DL 10000s this year, those needing the standard are likely going to have to do it in the USA and early (Stanford, Mt Sac, Oregon). It does not mean no marathon, but there will be few opportunities for 10000 qualifying.
They won't be running the WC marathon and will both easily get the A standard this weekend. They are both in tremendous shape as they get closer to the Boston Marathon, so running Stanford is a nice tune-up and a great way to get the A standard out of the way.
and Hasay will go with them, and putter out 15 laps in and fade to an 18th place finish.
Can Kara break 31 minutes right now?
The A standard is 31:40. Neither will run sub 31:00.
Shalane will run 31:25 and Kara will be 30 seconds back.
Currently there are only 4 Americans with the A standard.

Shalane could not run the A standard last year during marathon training. I guess we will see this year.
I am a huge fan and I hope she can't run too fast as I hope she is preparing to win Boston.

Could not or did not? Two very different things. She passed through 10k of that New Orleans Half Marathon last month in 32:10. So I don't think going 30 seconds faster, on a track, in only a 10k race is really that much of a stretch.
There is a reason that road times are not accepted for track entries. You present an excellent example.
Why would anyone imagine they'd run the WC marathon?
No, it's not really an example of that at all.

Yeah, it's not like they ran the Olympic marathon this past summer.
You may not of meant it to be, but it most certainly was. The first 10k of New Orleans? Good one. Knowing the course as well as I do, I am still laughing.
Goucher had been injured, as evidenced by her half-marathon last month (1:11:49), and given what she says on her Twitter page ("It's gonna be ugly"), she sounds less than confident.
The WC marathon has little prestige, and few first-order marathoners compete in it.

Yeah, the World Championships are not the mile.

I don't know, girlfriend. Looks pretty flat to me after the first half mile.

The "A" is 31:45.00.
