Was Franke doping bfore/after or during you were coaching him? What about the other guy , the steeplecahser who came and went and was a friend of Kallabis? Was he doping?

she was coaching him before that and only a short period of time.Kallabis was coached by Franke.

Both where caught for HES but not suspended cause it wasnt illegal at that time.

Kallabis is now only a 8:20+ guy.

Was this movie based on the book fromt he doping charge that he just wrote or a life story?

mainly on the drug thing/the book he wrote

So what does the average runner in Germany think of the book that he wrote? Do they believe the toothpaste story? How about the Franke thing?

no he didnt play himself, he was played by some B-Actor who had double the weight of Baumann.

About the case hmmm, there are several arguments for the "spiked-toothpaste-theory":

.)Baumann used this toothpaste only in 98? in Autumn in St.Moritz(where Franke also stayed at this time) and then only in March 99 when he got caught(cause he didnt like the toothpaste or something).

Baumann did a doping-test in Autumn 98("on free will") but was negative cause they only tested for EPO.

After they found out that the Nandrolon was in the toothpaste and he remebered that he also used it back in 98 in St.Moritz and they tested the old-sample again on Nandrolone and it was positive too.

So he had dozens of test between Autumn 98 and March99 but was always negative, then uses again the toothpaste and is positive again.

.)when the federation told him first that he had positive test they were not really interested to make it public, he could have stop taking it and they would forget it but he was tested again and again and his Nandrolon-values climbed higher and higher.

.)he had lots of fiends, he was constantly attacking all the guys from East-Germany cause they tried to keep up the doping-regime after the reunion(he was facing Franke and Kallabis after it was clear that they used HES and said to the whole german WC?-Team:I hope its clear, training is about going into the woods and doing some distance runs and not about needles, Franke and Kallabis got HES from some team-doc by the way).

He is way too intelligent to get caught.

May be he was doping all the time but he would have never been so stupid to take something like Nandrolone what can be easily detect, when you take Nandrolone and are as much tested like Baumann its clear that you get caught.

If you hear him talking you understand that he cant be so stupid, the most intelligent man on the running-circuit as far as i know.

of course he can spiked his toothpaste or his wife or the nandrolon was just an unknown secundary-substance of some other doping-product he used or....

in the beginning of his comeback everyone was skeptical but then:he was as fast as before and that at a very high age, and then must be clean for sure cause he was tested like no one else.In his first international race after the suspension he ran like 7:45 for 3k indoor outkicked by Million Wolde in less than a sec.

13:07 at 37-years of age(Nr.1 non-african in 2002).

Even during his suspension he ran 3ks in the 7:40 range in training(!!!) with some pacing-help.

A week before the 10k in Paris(where he dropped out and retired after) he ran like 7:42 for 3k.

He was so consistant during his career..its impossible to do that with drugs, running 3:33 for 1500m in 87 and in 97 as well!!!

And when you see how he trained...you dont need drugs for that, every junior-runner can do that training without drugs.He was a hell of a talent starting running late but very fast from the beginning without much training.

Franke is the total opposite, grown up in the East-Germany-System, lots of highs and lows, breakthroughs and breakdowns.

2nd in 88-Games

1st in 92-games

4th in 96-games(very close to medal)

Does the German book have the documents from the Federation and the doping control documents in it? Does the book have any police reports or interviews of the investigation in it?

i remember fish (john trautman) talking about franke saying that the guy could barely break 30 min for 10k while at george mason and then becomes world class in a year!

says that he was GDR-Nationality till 91 but now I#m not sure about that, he was also starting for a Berlin-Club.

At least he had more of a East-German Mentality compared to Baumann who is more of a free-spirit.

well guys, get your facts right first! franke was a west german, otherwise he couldn't have gone to the states and study!

franke ran 49.5 as a 400m runenr when 18y old. not too bad and he was a top junior in germany, not too far behind baumann. why shouldn't he be close to baumann later--performance-wise!

he never ran more than 5k at george mason, ran his first 5K ever there.

the guy was in the world champs final in 91, 4th in 93 , bronzemedallist at the euro champs in 94, 7th world champs in 1995, reached two finals at the olympics in 96 (the only athlete!), switched to the marathon and ran 2:11 in 1997, won a bronze in euro champs in 98, ran a european record 25k, 1:13:57, in 1999 and injured his achilles tendon in 2000, retired after that at the age of 36.

rather consistent also, like baumann, almost 10 years world class. hey, if you say that baumann couldn't have achieved his feat with doping, neither did franke, thats my 2 cents.

the plasma stuff given to him by a german team doctor was not forbidden and doesn't have anything to do with epo. but, i admit, it could give an advantage in hot weather.

kallabis, the guy he trained improved a lot and after that improvement and doping accusations was tested like crazy, even blood tests. but ran even faster in 1999, german record 8:09. and continued to run his 3rd fastest time in 2000 with 8:14 ! well, can't blame the guy to hit a hurdle in the olympic final. another franke pupil was 8th in sydney, jirka arndt. not too shabby for a coach....and they tested for EPO in sydney guys...so forget your consiparicy thoughts. if one doesn't achieve a desired level it doesn't mean others can't!
