I remember last year he said that the 10k Ethiopian trials would be his last 10k on the track. If he holds true to that we unfortunately probably won't see this, but who knows.
Amazement at Haile's accomplishments at his age always kind of bother me, knowing that he's probably really 5 years older than he says... we should be even more amazed.
He should before Lagat puts them away.
I'd love to see him go for it. It's basically a given that 3k+ he'd own. I'd have to think he'd take the 1500/mile too.

whether he will remains to be seen but it would be great if he could try and reduce them a few times cos then lagat will really have something harder to go for when the time cos, btw what are the marathon and half marathon over 40 records?

You're right, wikipedia has a better list. Both the 1500 and miles aren't right. The 1500 is 3:42.0 and the mile is 3:58.7 (outdoor records).
I was also surprised to see that Lagat does not have the 35yo 1500m best. William Tanui was actually faster, 3:32.4 at age 36 and 4 months.

I have heard a lot of people say he has been 40 for a while. When I met him in person, he looked a few years older than his stated age. Who knows, appearance is not everything.
BTW, he came across as a great guy.
It would be great to see a 5 race series for Haile. Not Golden league, but just one level below (well perhaps the 10,000m, which should be the culmination, could be in a golden league event)... It should start with a 1500m, then a mile, then a 3,000m... Perhaps Whiteman, the current 1500/mile 40+ record holder, could be invited to the first 3 races also (1500, mile and 3000). Any other fast guys turning 40 this year?

I wouldn't want to see him in a B heat. 10 months ago, he was still running 27:20 for 10,000m. That's 10 seconds faster than Farah ran last year and 5 seconds faster than Rupp ran last year.
He would certainly be in the A heat at 10,000m in a Golden League event. Not sure about all the other distances. I would like to see him competing for the win at all times...
as someone close to Geb's camp of people, I can assure you that Haile has not run for 2+ months (not due to injury). He won't be breaking any recores any time soon.

Many runners ran great well into their late 30s (William Tanui, Carlos Lopez, Geb...), but it seems that nobody seems to be able to get to the magic 40 without serious impairment.
