I can't find it now, but I read an article recently that claimed that standing improved health. It recommended standing at your computer or work station instead of sitting.
I can't find the original article, but it makes sense. Has anyone seen any studies on this?
I work from home, so a week ago, I put my laptop on a stand on my desk and stand up while typing instead of sitting down. I haven't tracked time, but I'd guess that I'm standing 5-6 hours more each day for over a week so far.
Like any other exercise, it will take time for the body to adapt. The first couple of days, I was exhausted and would have to sit down for a while after a couple of hours. It's getting less tiring now, but my running performance has definitely declined. I notice that I have to flex my gluts and rotate my pelvis forward to stand comfortably for long periods.
I plan to keep standing every day for a couple of months and then taper (spend less time on my feet) before a race to see if it makes any difference.
Has anyone else tried this? What was your experience?
