Looking back through old state meet results made me curious. Where did Ohio studs end up and how did they run (or not)? Guys like Matt Buzek, Braden Martinez, Danny Neff, Tsehaye Hiluf, Zach Wills, Julian Meyer, Chris Kollar, Sam Borchers, Chad Balyo, Emil Heineking, Wes Smith?
Danny Neff: Goes to Georgia has run 3:45/46
Tsehaye Hiluf: No doing anything
Zach Wills: Ok-State pretty sure has run sub 14:30. (not too impressive, ran sub 9 in high school)
Julian Meyer: Went to OSU 30:30 for 10k, now at Kent State
Chris Kollar: Went to NCSU, ran alright, not as well as he should have.
Sam Borchers: Penn State- started off great, went into a slump, came back his senior year strong
Chad Balyo: Ohio State, never performed the way he should have.
Emil Heineking: Under Jason Dunn ran well. All American for XC a few times, 14:06 "I think" was his best 5k as a freshman. I thought he should have been able to run 13:40 at least.
Wes Smith, NCSU: Big Disappointment. Runner up to Chris Solinsky at the Foot Locker XC Meet. Never did much at NSCU.
Matt Buzek: Ran for OSU and quit.
Braden Martinez: Ran 14:14 for 5k. Quit the team.

Any update on Tsehaye Hiluf?
I think it's interesting how many OH kids that went to Ohio State either burned out or quit. Another recent example is Steve weaver. Ran low 15s in Hs and now can't break 28 for an 8k

Yup. Brajdic is the poster boy of that archetype (although he's making a bit of a comeback and I wish him well). With the Ohio recruits they got from 2009-2012 you would've thought they'd be an NCAA powerhouse by now. Hanle, Pupino, the Hannafords, Sabo, Redd, etc. -- basically every good Ohio HS runner from that era except Wills. Hopefully Elswick doesn't fall victim to the same fate.
On the other hand, lots of Ohio studs or sub-studs are running pretty well recently.

Interesting thing about all of the runners you mentioned is that they're either perpetually hurt, or off the team. I'm in agreement in hoping that this latest class of guys don't meet a similar fate.
Yup, particularly Prakel and Wharton. Hadley also had a solid XC season at Furman, although I haven't been keeping up on his track season. I think the relative failures of some of the 2009-2012 guys listed above scared them away from OSU, and understandably so.

Fleming seems to be running pretty well too. Their top mid-distance guy right now. Transfer from Kent State I believe
