I'm a high school senior going into my final season of Track and I'm looking for advice to maximize my season and get some nice PRs to end my high school running career. Our Indoor season was practically a waste with only four workouts over the course of 3+ months and the rest were easy runs from 30-50 minutes. I should've done more training on my own, but lost motivation and got bogged down with schoolwork. Going into Outdoor, I'm refocused and reenergized.
At our Time Trials this week I ran:
25.96 for 200m
57.40 for 400m
2:14.71 for 800m
and earlier in the Indoor Season I ran 4:57 for 1600m at a meet. Conditions for Time Trials were decent though not ideal. I ran in spikes, however, I am a Distance/XC guy with no sprinting training other than the few tapered workouts we do going into championship season. These Time Trials were my first times racing the 200 and 400, but I have an 800 PR of 2:12.21 and a 1600 PR of 4:49.58. I'd really love to run 4:39, 2:05, 54.9, 23.9 this season. Those are listed in priority order. Are these goals achievable? What sort of training should I focus on? Endurance? Intervals? Hills? Strength? Fartlek? Etc. How can I maximize this season to reach these goals or come as close as possible. Everytime I've raced the 800, my legs have had another gear in the final 100, but mentally I can't push myself to that next level. Any advice for getting past this mental barrier? I really think 2:10 is possible off of current fitness and I honestly only feel about 80-85% in shape.
