What are talking about? Mary Cain will break that record!

1269 points 3000 7:25.40 5000 12:44.12 10000 26:33.80
1500 outdoor 3:30 is possible
Rupp gets better the longer the distance with 10000m being his best track race. If he is in 12:44 shape he certainly can pop a
26:28.95
Do you really not understand why Rupp has done so much more with his potential than some like German?? Rupp has stayed healthy his ENTIRE CAREER. Has he ever missed a single season due to injury?? I can't see how his health and ability to train consistently year in and year out isn't THE FIRST THING people state when they talk about why he's so good. Look at his times through his career. They've gradually improved every year. Obviously, there's no way to know for sure about PEDs, but I would be much more worried if he had all of a sudden improved out of nowhere.
Kids take note: If you want to be a great runner, stay healthy. Eat well, rest, get massages if possible, do absurd amounts of core work, warm-up and cool-down properly, work on form, don't over train, raise mileage in small increments, etc. If you can stay healthy and slowly improve each season, eventually you will become a great runner.
Back in high school I had the opportunity to race Rupp at the Jim Danner invite my junior year of cross country. After the race, my coach who happened to be friends with Salazar, brought us all over to meet him (Salazar)and she asked him what one piece of advice he would give us if he could only give us one. He looked over at Rupp and the rest of his runners who were all STILL doing core work (an hour after the race), and turned back to us and said, "All the little things."
2005 he had a foot injury I think he missed the end of the cross country season.
The reason he is doing what he is doing is Salazar and Tom Clarke from Nike they found the runner at the right time and trained him- Nike facilities water treadmills and all the other small things add up. But without a motivated hard working runner willing to do all the work no matter how strange (pollen mask, cooling vest, heat works outs to simulate Beijing, like flying into London the day before the race living at altitude and so on. It won't work -
I think he is clean I cthink he works hard he wins and loses but he keeps working day after day year after year

So basically the lance armstrong argument. "What am I on? I'm on the bike six hours a day".
You cannot compare a high school athlete in the US, especially under Salazar with an east African. It's not apples and oranges, it's apples and potatoes. There is maybe no westerner in history that had as much talent as rupp, who connected with such a knowledgeable and disciplined coach, amd stayed with him for as long as Rupp and Salazar. And had the resources and support. It's a total one off. Many have had parts of this puzzle, only Rupp had them all. And to Rupps credit, he is still Rupp, hi,self an outlier. Willing and able to take the pressure and the trashings year after year and pick himself up and get stronger and faster.
Yeah, there is no comparison.

Except lance won the tour how many years in a row and Galen has won how many international championships?
Just try a little perspective and common sense. Galen is very good, but he is not dominating the world for half a decade. That doesn't mean he is clean, just that your argument has little comparison.
Rupp can run faster in both the 5 & 10, but I'd really like to see a world's gold.
12:49 and 26:38 if he can get into the right races. He needs good pace making and the pace can't lag after the pacers drop out.
rupp has now met the best case scenario many of us had for him.
now what?? what's the next step?
he's not far off el-g's mile record indoors!
#7 all-time at 3k indoors.
we don't even know what his best distance really is.
it might be 5k, even 3k.
what kind of mile would you expect out of rupp if he did 800m-mile training??
the last of our best case scenario times is ready to fall.
the 12:4x 5k.
after that there isn't much else to do except go for gold medals and world records!
whodathunk. al-sal, maybe.

Great run, and converts to the world lead for 1500, but talking about all time lists in a fake event is pretty dumb.
LOL. Your infantile obsession to disparage the mile is extraordinarily dumb, bud. Move on. Seriously.

Are you saying Galen will run his all-time best 10K this year?
Fernandez ran 13:25 at 18 and Derrick ran 13:29. Fernandez ran 3:34 in one summer with Schumacher after years of poor health. So there are others with huge talent

I was factoring in opportunity. I agree a 12:44 fitness level would mean he could possibly run 26:25-28, but he may have only one quality shot at that. The 5000 presents itself, as well as the 3000 more times throughout the season and with more depth and quality athletes/ pacing.

So basically you missed the inclusion of all the little things. OF course an athlete has to do the grind work. The great athlete does all the other little things too.
How many reps of free throws did Jordan do every day until he got good at it? (He sucked at one point).
Wakes Up is right on the mark.
For years, the lament was that "we" USA born athletes would never be able to catch up to the Africans because the athletes were not discovered young enough, and stewarded properly.
Well...Rupp is the most extreme opposite case...a total fluke.
It's February calm down
We don't give a shit about indoors.
