I noticed yesterday that while Alysia Montano was setting the US record in the 600m at the Millrose Games at the Armory that she wasn't wearing any Nike gear. I looked at the meet entries, and she was listed as unattached. I know that last year she was signed with Nike. Anyone know what happened?!

Anyone ever wonder how fast Montano could run the 800m if she didn't run the first 400m like Marita Koch? With her talent she ought to have been (and ought to be in the future) medaling at every WC and OG for the foreseeable future.

According to her blog, her Nike contract was up at the end of last year but she doesn't say whether Nike wouldn't renew, offered too little, or exactly what happened.
Anyway, she's cool and a great runner. A sponsor would be smart to pick her up.
I can see Oiselle going for it, as she went to the same high school as Fleshman, and their folks have been replying to some of her tweets; that's how they got LF to sign with them...

Alysia Montano is articulate and witty. Ever read her blogs? Maybe the usual suspects -- Nike, et al -- are afraid of her saying something too damned smart, and politically incorrect.

Allyson Felix went this way a couple of years ago. They (Felix family) didn't like the offer that Adidas made. So Allyson ran unattached from Nov to March of that year and actually signed with Nike during the WC in Doha. Kerron Clement went through that and ended up signing with Nike for the offer he originally didn't want. Asafa Powell went from Nike to Li Ning in China.
It's a tough buisiness these days. Aggressive Negotiations.
