Galen Rupp pulls out of this weekend's AR 5000 attempt- question is why?

You realize by simply typing what you typed for #5 you you are basically "going there", right?

My opinion ... Travel and a couple of hard race efforts have left him slightly flat and/or dealing with a touch of winter health issues (ie minor cold/congestion etc.) More travel and a longer race aren't likely to help and making prudent/conservative decisions is what has allowed him to have the steady buildup that has gotten him where he is.

Simple, normal stuff that will get way more debate than it should.

Didn't you post that the 5000m race itself was cancelled by the meet?

Can't do a 5000m AR attempt if the race was cancelled.

Put those efforts into some other meet.

It's not an equal comparison in this case though because Lagat trains in Germany this time of year and Rupp trains in Oregon, ~12 hour flight and 9 time zones away, so of course Lagat will be more dependable.

Did you all miss the part about the 5k being cancelled? Maybe he just doesn't feel like running another 3k and decided if there's no 5k he wants to spend the weekendwith his wife.

How do you know Rupp pulled out first? Monti's tweet reads like the event was canceled.

Where in Germany is Lagat based out of? I didn't realize he did this every indoor season. Seems like his home in AZ would provide better training weather than Germany this time of year.

He owns a home in Tubingen, which is far enough south that the winters shouldn't be too bad.

They'd just cancel the event that was set up for Rupp and they had been advertising him running.

That's not how meets work. Big time athletes dictate things.

The 5k was cancelled because Rupp pulled out, and it's no longer a draw because it was set up as a record attempt with Rupp, a rabbit, and a bunch of scrubs. To insure he wins, and has a record attempt. When he pulls out, it's a bunch of B-level guys, no one wants to see.

Farah is racing B-level guys in the 3k because he's not super fit but wants a pay day and the british crowd wants to see him race.

Why he pulled out, who knows.

Lets not forget Rupp is very sickly, ergo the need for multiple TUEs.

Well I know this, everyone in my family got a bug that lasted for 2-3 weeks and included loss of smell, taste and congestion from the chest to the ear canals.

It was a nightmare. I had sore eye sockets. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's what he got as tons of people have.

If so, there is no way he is going to travel for a big 5000. The silver lining is he can put more focus toward outdoors and assuming Lagat gets his 2 mile AR he will be pretty fired up for it.

Sounds like pesticides or chemtrails, some kind nof air pollution anyway or else drugs.

Galen is suffering from too much speed work, and not enough 5k/10k type of training.

So, Rupp managed to kill an event several other runners planned and prepared for, and likely committed travel money on.
