I mean if he did, leave the man alone. From what i have seen I come to the conclusion it was a real foundation, therefore he may have been lying but he helped plenty of people along the way..

Why would he help cancer? Cancer is bad. Did you mean fight cancer, or help people fighting cancer?
My man Lance knows this: In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women. Forget about the cancer.
Not sure if you wrote your answer to my earlier question and I couldn't find it.
What do you want me to do about it? Because I can't hang out here for the rest of my life.

Just bring it with you and drop it off after dinner. Don't forget to extrapolate those data points on squirrel migration, the last presentation was soundly discredited on that issue.
Livestrongs mission statement is to raise AWARENESS for cancer. This is the keyword here.
I think it's ridiculous. We all know people who have or had cancer and we all know how bad it is. You don't need to raise AWARENESS. Give the money to RESEARCH instead.
What do they say? Follow the money.
If you interested in the Livestrong Foundation (or any Foundation for that matter), do a Google search as follows:
Livestrong Foundation IRS Form 990. Here's the link:
http://www.livestrong.org/pdfs/4-0/LAF-2011-Form-990
This will usually give you the latest filed copy; all are required to be disclosed / available. You won't find them out there for most of these Celbrity / Athletes Foundations.
Ryan Hall has hidden his "Ryan Steps Foundation" very well. re: MEB Foundation - Meb Keflezighi has done an excellent job on his website: he says you can donate but it may not be tax deductible. It is not an IRS 501 (c) (3) Foundation. Referrals are made to another organization that promptly claims they don't have anything to do with the "MEB FOUNDATION".
Solution: Lay it all out on your website. Simple.
Is it any wonder that no one trusts these Foundations? They come up with a "tear jerker" story and get you to part with your money yet disclose zero. Yet, when they make some "contribution" they are there with cameras & FloTrack at the ready. Let's see all the receips for 1st Class Air Fare, 5 Star Hotels, and other expenditures of this ".... Non Profit Organization..."
Back to Livestrong Foundation: check out the income and expenses ... so, the CEO is paid $374,000 to run it in Austin, Texas ... high cost of living there. A gigantic amount of overhead is included in large numbers minimizing the amount that is supposed to go to worthy causes.
They take in $46 million & pay out $8.5 million in compensation! The money coming in doesn't all go out ... it's being stockpiled ...$13 million is accumulating from 2010 to 2011. Where's the details?
At least this is available .... look at Track & Field Foundations and you see ZERO or 'double talk'.
The Livestrong money never went to Armstrong. It went to the Livestrong Foundation.
Nobody said any money went to Armstrong!
Check the other expenses, though....especially the Travel & Entertainment.
Also, we should not overlook that there are two different websites:
livestrong.org = non-profit site of the Livestrong Foundation
livestrong.com = for-profit site owned by Demand Media, Inc. (DMD), a publicly-traded corporation.
Why create the ".org" domain and then allow the ".com" domain to be used by a for-profit company? I'm sure no one ever accidentally types livestrong.com or anything.
I would be interested in knowing what "cancer awareness" entails. I would imagine a given portion was to send Lance and his entourage around the country and world making speeches and attending events, fund raiser, dinners, etc. In other words, free travel, food, hotels, on a continual world tour. Which would be a nice way to live, if you can get the gig.
For a good comparison, The Livestrong foundation and the Michael J. Fox foundation both brought in a little over 40 million dollars in income last year. Livestrong no longer gives any money to cancer research (siting that the American Cancer Institute has 20 times their budget, and gives to research). In comparison, The Michael J. Fox foundation gave 33 million dollars to Parkinsons research last year. Over the ten years that Livestrong did give to research, they gave just over 40 million. In 10 years.
Livestrong spends WAY more money on "awareness campaigns" and image brand building.
Livestrong has a better rating as a charity than the american cancer society or Susan B Komen. www.charitynavigator.com
Well everyone knows Susan B. Komen is like livestrong...they dont give any money to cancer research...they focus everything on "awareness"
Charity Navigator doesnt judge you on how well your money is spent as long as most of it is spent on whatever you claim to be spending it on. And they HAMMER you if you dont show them your audits and your 990 form on your website...thats why the American Cancer Society has such a low rating. They actually donate to cancer research, and they get more back from their fundraising than Livestrong does.
I wouldn't donate money to Livestrong or Susan B. Komen. The American Cancer Society donates something like 300-400 million a year directly to cancer research.

.org is generally used for non-profits.
Anyway:
Livestrong.com registered 12/7/2002
Livestrong.org registered 12/10/2002
From the article:
Also, last month, anecdotes surfaced of Armstrong receiving six-figure daily fees for ride-with-Lance-type benefits. One 2005 event was in Canada for the British Columbia Cancer Foundation’s Tour of Courage. And in Norway, the newspaper VG reported a disagreement over whether $400,000 went to Livestrong or Armstrong for a 2009 visit to Oslo. When it was established that the appearance deal was to pay Armstrong, and not Livestrong directly, cyclist Dag Erik Peterson said he still thought the money was for the charity, saying that he saw Armstrong riding in Livestrong cycling gear and “mixed his roles. That’s not fair.”
I am sure a lot of cash that went to the foundation assumed that they would be funding research to find a cure etc. $0 for research - in fact if you look att he website it is very difficult to find out what the money is used for apart from some education and counselling .
Well, it appears from the Forbes article that Armstrong treated his charitable organization similar to his cycling: win at all costs, promote myself, bully people, travel on the charitable dime.
It would be interesting to see how many lawsuits Livestrong has filed for the use of bracelets and the color yellow. We know that Susan G. Komen spends a significant amount of charitable donations on suing people for using the word "cure" or the color pink in their event names and t-shirts or symbols.
Great bunch, these cancer "awareness" types.
