anyone have good/bad experiences with this product? Also,do you heat to custom fit or do you wear as is? I've read lots of positive reviews from the RW shoe forum but nothing on here.

i heated mine and it works great. a lot more flexible than my old prescribed orthotic and still does the trick.
SOLE has two products that I am aware of, the difference being the thickness of the top cover. The base is EVA (same material as the midsole of most running shoes) and the top cover is PORON. PORON (registered trademark of Rogers Corporation) is a polyurethane foam. PORON specifically, but polyurethane foam in general, is considered the best top cover material there is. It has great shock absorption, but does not "bottom out". "Bottom out" is the less technical description for compression set; so not bottoming out means that the material is resistant to compression set and will thus retain its cushioning properties longer.
EVA is always heat moldable. Be aware though that EVA generally increases hardness by about 5 SHORE "A" durometer points after heating. Bascially, it will be slightly firmer after heating than before heating. (It is a difference you can feel, but relatively minor.) So if the shape is good to start, do not heat the insole to avoid unnecessary firmness of the base.
I make custom orthotics for a living, but always recommend people try a product like this prior to investing the time/money to go the custom route. (I do not sell any off-the-shelf products, including SOLE brand products.)
