And this is better than my PR, so I'd say he's doing just fine.

Winning by 90+ seconds isn't enough for you? At least he didn't pull a Ted P. and run 16:57 doing just enough to beat 2nd place.
On the bright side he improved his time by 10 minutes from when he last ran a 5K in July:
Is he done? He never had it in him to begin with.
Too big, too heavy, too wimpy. The soft AR was a fluke and was subsequently crushed by Rupp.
He should officially retire, but he seems to crave the spotlight like Webb. He'll compete as a "pro" for another 5 years or so before being forced out.
10 minute improvement in 6 months is incredible. I wonder what kind of mileage he is putting in.
Why? Because the HO HO Run has Ho-Ho's and Snoballs. You also get a tree seedling. Maybe he's a big Hostess fan.
As to the slower time, the course is part trail and semi-hilly. Also, it could have been short (or long) depending on whether there was recent flooding of the nearby river.
What happened to the recent thread I started on Solinsky? It seems to have been deleted.
This 15:25 first-place finish is nothing but good news.
He started, ran, and finished a race. In first place, no less.
I think that on the now-deleted thread, I suggested that his only remaining step to redemption was to actually compete in a race.
Although this was obviously only a training run and not a real "race", given that he won by a minute-and-a-half, I would say that it is an unqualified success, unless he injured himself.
He made it halfway through his last step at redemption. Now he needs to run a "race", and not necessarily think about winning, but about feeling how things are going, and about making his presence felt.
How many of you hacks do a 15:25 training run outside not on a track including some trails? None, that is how many.
I really want to see him in some low-level indoor tune-up races, against racers who care, maybe some all-comers meets.
Good stuff.
it's quite possible he did this after or before another part of a workout. or he went out slow and schumacher wanted to see how fast he could run his last mile etc. as a professional runner, i'm sure there was some logic involved, give him some credit...he hasn't run that slow since high school and is supposedly running some big mileage weeks
OK, maybe 5 or 10 of you.

For fun? Just to be pinning on a bib and stretching his legs while recovering from surgery? It's not worth overthinking.
When he next does a serious race on the track will be the time to speculate about his future.

This is my guess. I'm thinking this was part of a bigger workout that included some miles before and after the race.

I'm sure Chris really gives a flying sh&t about your standing in judgement of him, prosletysing about "redemption" like you're God.
I think it has to be considered a pretty good run if he beat Tom Ferrell.
Tom Ferrell was 4th at the Euros last week. its not a fair race.
it's like taking on Mo Ferah after he's run 30 miles, or Scott Overoll after a marathon.
The only thing I can think of was he got an appearace fee of 100 bucks and it was in his neighborhood.
Or like was mentioned. He did something for fun included in a workout.
