For the past 5-6 years I was running 50+ miles a week and sub-3 marathons. My knees were beginning to ache and I wondered about family history of arthriris (45 years old). On a whim I bought a pair of Hoka Stinson - the sales guy made a comment about relieving pressure on the knees (and I had NOT mentioned my knees). The $170 was by far the most I have ever paid... took about 5-6 runs to feel comfortable with the new feel, but knee pain almost immediately began to get better. After 3 weeks I noticed my hamstrings were tight, but definitely the lesser of 2 evils compared to previous knee pain. In addition the sole wore out very quickly, starting after just 60 miles. I wore them mostly for slow easy runs (5 miles - 25 miles), but did do one 2X2mile session at 6:20 pace. I have gone back to alternating 3 different pairs including the Hokas (other 2 are adidas) and both knees and hamstrings feel better. This experience is far from scientific as there was always more than one variable being tinkered with. My hesitation to buy another pair has more to do with the quick wear of the soles and the price tag. If they were $100 /pair I would buy more. Hope this helps.
